Robin and Kathy Tucker of woodmosaics stopped working in town back in 1986. After Robin’s intricate wood-inlayed work was featured in The Best of Missouri Hands catalog and commissioned by Ralston Purina, they were on their way to full time crafting. Influenced by Amish quilt patterns, Robin’s excellent woodworking uses exotic natural woods that range from Satinwood from Sri Lanka to Purpleheart from Central and South America. All of the wood is completely natural, with only a cle...

Well, I’ve signed up for a woodworking class ‘til the end of the year and have decided to make a hope chest (and a couple of other little things).
Tool Dad was kind enough to send plans for the Cedar Hope Chest he’s built and I have turned them into a Sketchup (first one I’ve tried). I think it’s looking pretty good so far, but any input would be appreciated – I’m fairly new to woodworking and would like to do the best job I can on this project.

How deep should the dado be on a bradboard top. I plan on using red oak for a chest and want to make sure that the depth is right. Would a haunched breadboard be better for what i have plannned. Please give me your imput. Thanks. Ed. E.

I have finished the shell of the hope chest for my daughter. I will now start on the inside fit and finish. I plan to use aromatic cedar for the bottom to give it a cedar chest feel/smell.
My mortise joints on the frame and panels came out good but they will need some fine tuning with a scraper to get them even all the way across.
The plan I am using called for a grove down each leg to receive the tongue on the styles and rails. If I did this again I would use a stop dado instead of ...

These are the initial designs for 2 Hope chest for my daughters for this christmas. Main wood will be walnut, highlights are either bloodwood or purpleheart depending on the daughter.
This is taken from a design from Woodsmith #32. You can see a finished version finished by strube1369
A couple key differences that I am going to be doing different. I will be mitering the corners of the box, and using dovetail keys of the contrasting wood(it is not shown in the design). I also pla...

I started my next project based on an idea I got from a gorgeous piece of maple that I had laying around which I found when I cleaned out my shop recently. The board was an impulse buy several months ago. I didn’t have a use in mind for it when I bought it. It was 6’ long, almost 10” wide and a little over 1/2” thick.
This is the design I came up with for a Concave Chest of Drawers:
Some of the Features will change as I start building, especially on the struc...

I decided to make a hope chest for my wife for our 5 year anniversary since the theme of the anniversary is wood. She told me when we first started dating that she always wanted one.
It took awhile to find a design I liked, and it was one from tooldad. He made a solid cedar raised panel blanket chest
I loved the design!

while doing a dry fit to take measurements for drawers and drawer guides disaster struck. After the measurements were taken and I was in the process of disasembling the chest I lost control of some of the parts. the back of the chest fell to its death and broke in two at the tounge and grove joint. this has stopped the next step of the project in its tracks. Now I must fix this problem before I continue. the next intery will be called the reasurection. Heers some pics.

We just adopted a boxer after having fostered a few of them and falling in love.
Tyson is a great dog and I figured a dog like him needed a nice bed.
I drew the design using Sketchup and it has been in the planning stages for quite a while. I bought a Kreg pocket hole jig and basically planned the construction around that.
It’s currently in-progress in my shop so I should have another entry soon with some in-progress pictures.
Feel free to leave any comments or s...

I haven’t been too active on the site lately. But I have been making sawdust in preparation for antique fishing tackle show that I attend, and display at, each year as a member of a fishing tackle collecting club. I’ve shown past examples of all these projects in my projects pages. So, I thought I would just post the latest versions. Wish me luck this coming weekend.
I bill these as tackle storage chests, but they’re based on a machinist-type chest for small tools. T...
