I’m posting these pictures as a means to get bloggin’…and, because I’m interested in milling and drying lumber (on a scale that I can accommodate – in the backyard). I’m also brand new at it, so it’s just fun to share! I would have liked to have photos or video of this ‘small time’ sawing in the backyard, but wasn’t quite there yet!
Inspired by Bob’s forum topic post the other day on the craigslist cherry crotchwood, I took some pics of some crotchwood I cut in April…
A couple p...

I actually completed this on Father’s Day and got it in the mail this past Tuesday. After the glue up, I had to plane the fingers that were proud as well as lay down a finish. I cleaned up the joints with a low-angle block plane one evening and then oiled it with two coats of Watco Danish Oil (Natural) on Sunday and Monday.
Dad received it last evening. He had just walked in the door when I called so I got to listen while he opened it. That was pretty cool to hear his reaction. He did...

Happy Fathers Day to all of my LumberJock buddies, and a belated Happy Mothers Day to all of the Lady Jocks!
I am looking forward to using the LumberJock CyberToolShare feature to explore everyone’s shop and check out what goodies you all got for Fathers Day!
I had the privilege and pleasure of spending the last two days working in my shop. I made a lot of progress on my cherry quilt chests. I am under a time crunch as these need to be delivered at the end of the month, so it was great...

The process continues… Glued it up tonight. I’m glad I could find the generic epoxy syringe at the local big box. I didn’t have time for a trek to Rockler or Woodcraft for a small glue kit. The tip fit perfectly between the fingers and was easy to control the amout of glue dispensed.
I’ll be cleaning up the slightly proud ends of the joints tomorrow evening. I hope that goes well considering the fingers are only 1/8” thick. I’m a little worried about tea...

Hello everyone. It’s been forever since I posted anything it seems. I’ve been pretty busy with home upgrades and stuff for work but I finally got into the shop this weekend for a serious amount of time. I purchased wood for the base of the bench I’ll will be blogging about soon. I’m letting the lumber acclimate to the shop before milling it.
So, since I had to let the wood do its thing on the stickers I decided I was going to challenge myself to build a box of some ...

Cherry Chest Update
Well I got to squeeze in some time out in the shop and work on the cherry chests that are being built for the Annual Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon. They will be on display at The Clearwater Gallery.
I could not resist the new LumberJock CyberToolShare s feature, so I hopped on the internet late one night and borrowed Tom’s Festool Domino. I used the Domino to assemble the frame and panels into the final box.
The Domino was amazingly quick. So quick, that I...

Birds Eye Maple
....well just a short blog story today as I’m heading out soon to get my butt in high gear.
I’ve been keeping busy around the shop lately with the many projects of woodworking as come my way, a counter top in process, some pieces, (actually three) of furniture and then there’s that three legged piece of maple that I have put up on the third floor of the barn-shop that has started whispering my name for attention. Why just yesterday there I was up on the...

Well it’s been a weekend, not a lot of work done, but enough to make you think that you’ve accomplished something.
Two screw-up’s, two corrections, one modification. Only had to recut two pieces of wood, not too major. Could have been a lot worse, and re-planed 6 boards that were too thick.I left off with the making of the lower case for the Buffet / Hutch. I stated that I needed to do some veneering and also some engineering for the mid drawer slides. I’ve done the veneering and done no ...

Now that the Challenge 01 Table is done, I started working on the mantel again. Also to get the full story, check out part #1: Getting Started,
Yesterday I re-sawed enough Brazilian Cherry to cover the top. This morning I planed them to a 1/4” thickness, & proceeded to fit the inlay.
The Cherry really added some beauty to the mantel. It’s a nice contrast to the Black Ash.
My Son stopped by, & was surprised that I already found a use for the flooring he gave me.

The continuation of the Buffet / Hutch build. Today was a busy day, just not in the shop. Lunch with my wife, pick up the kids at school, etc. So when I got into the shop it was after dark.
I posted a blog on Hardwood Lumber GradingThis is why. My best friend, who I moved away from when I moved to Delaware, and I went together to purchase some wood that was rated as Select. I was unable to go pick it up, but he went and picked up the wood.
If I had been there I think I would have walke...
