Here we go, folks – this time for real. Someone must be first, and I volunteer.
This is a barrister bookcase of my own design. I created it in eCabinet Systems, the program I use to design and create furniture pieces.
Dimensions are: 60”H x 36”W x 14”D
This could be built in modules, but I elected to do the bookcase as one piece. The model can be easily modified, now that the entire bookcase is designed. I also attach an exploded view, to pique your interest ...

First the bad news, just after my Bro-in law rec’d his homemade 6-in-1 mahogany screwdriver for christmas (and my nephew asked if he was really going to use it) it broke. Apparently the fact that I made it was a miracle, as I misjudged and left the wall closest to the business end very thin. First attempt was only a success in working out all the details in getting it on the lathe, and then off in one piece. Another second and It would have exploded on me.
Like any good customer ...

Apart from reading just about every magazine that hit the newsstands since we bought our house several years back, I’m basically a self-taught woodworker. I’ve only taken two classes. One a 5-week lathe class (spindle turning), the other a ten-week intro class – where I designed and built my pub table. (The first project I posted here). I finished those classes a little over a year ago, and my wife and I agreed that I could continue to take classes as time and budget allowed. Consequently, I ...

I got home taday at lunch time and I saw this in the middle of the driveway.
It’s a cherry burl, probably 3’ long and 2’ wide at the widest spot.
Not sure how I’ll cut it up yet.
More pictures.
And Sunny checking it out for critters.
It looks like its been on the ground for a while because of the aging on the cut ends.

Dear Sir,
We are very sorry to hear that our first generation custom made six-in-one screwdriver did not live up to your screw driving expectations of being able to drive nearly as many screws as the Titanic made Trans-Atlantic voyages.
We take our product design and customer service very seriously, and have sacked everyone involved with the first product line. At considerable time and expense we have completely retooled our product line and would like to offer you a replacement fro...

I was out at my local exotic wood store that I’ve shopped at for the last 25 years, and picked up a few nice things, as well as some wood too. I was kind of wondering how I let myself spend $87 (total) on Purple Heart, (1×11 1/4×17), 1/8” x 2 1/2” x 36” (2pcs), 1” x 2” x 30” Cordia/Bocote & 1/4” x 4” x 24” Mexican Chechen, plus brad tip bits and nice adjustable countersink bits plus a bunch of misc stuff.
When I went...

My wife was starting to get ready for some Christmas decorations. She notified me that she’d like a Sofa table to place against the wall in the kitchen to put decorations on. She also stated a requirement that it be like the Thorsen table that was built by my son Dave. for the Thorsen Table Challenge that we had earlier here on LumberJocks.com . His table has aged some since Dave made it and it now sits in the kitchen where my wife puts her purse when she comes into the house.
It’s wh...

I am an “Urban Logger”. I only mill trees from town. There is a reason for this. I am a tree hugger (yea really) Not the stereotype, insert your own mental picture here, that have given that title a negative connotation. BUT, I do love trees. I think they are magnificent. I know this sounds weird from a guy that runs a sawmill, you would think I just feel they are for me to chop down and mill and make money from. It’s not like that at all . I started sawmilling just to keep ...

I’m posting these pictures as a means to get bloggin’…and, because I’m interested in milling and drying lumber (on a scale that I can accommodate – in the backyard). I’m also brand new at it, so it’s just fun to share! I would have liked to have photos or video of this ‘small time’ sawing in the backyard, but wasn’t quite there yet!
Inspired by Bob’s forum topic post the other day on the craigslist cherry crotchwood, I took some pics of some crotchwood I cut in April…
A couple p...
