Picture Frames: Mitered Half-Lap Joints #3: Miter Half-lap Joints Cut In Cherry Hardwood

These miter half-lap cuts for this picture frame are straight off my table saw. I used a 1 by 4 by 84 inch American Black Cherry board that I jointed one edge straight and then made the other edge parallel to it by ripping the board on my table saw. I ripped this board to 2 1/4 inches wide. It is close to 3/4 inches thick. I will either apply several coats of Danish Oil or Boiled Linseed Oil that will pop the nice grain on this cherry hardwood. Maple & Cherry Nightstands #2: Nearly Finished

I have been spending my time in the shop to complete these nightstands instead of entering updates in my blog. Today I took the glued up drawer boxes and fitted them to their respective nightstand. I decided to cut dovetails for the sides where it fastens to the drawer front. I decided to go this way instead of cutting half-blind dovetails into the cherry drawer fronts. I gave my original Tower Bookcases made from maple to my son Scott. These bookcases were offered as free woodworking plans from I liked the plan because these bookcases take very little floor space. I can place them on each side of the master headboard. We like to read in bed. These bookcases allow us to store our current readings nearby.
