SketchUp Challenge - A Month Late

2491 days ago by cheller | 7 comments »

I’m really late with this. August and September were very busy months, mostly related to upheaval at work. In the insanity I had trouble deciding on an inspiration and even more trouble finding the time and energy to focus on learning SketchUp. About a week before the deadline I finally came up with an inspiration. But despite my best efforts I couldn’t get it together to submit on time. The final straw was primarily mental (no wise cracks, please). I really didn’t wan...

Dubai Hotel Dining Table

2525 days ago by Ric | 17 comments »

After looking through some of the entries, I sure hope designs are judged, not on how well we can make SketchUp work! I’ve only been using it for 3 weeks and only for this one design. I’ve figured a way to make it do some things, but from what you all are doing, I’ve got a long way to go! Anyway, to my design. I’ve been facinated by the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai , United Arab Emirates ever since I saw a special on it on Discovery. The inspiration for the ho...

Fallingwater Dining Table

2526 days ago by Kevin Wilson | 12 comments »

When it was time to design my table, there was only one choice for the inspiration. As a graduate of architectural design, I’ve always been fascinated with Frank Lloyd Wright. I spent a lot of time with my nose buried in books about “Fallingwater”, his masterpiece. Then I went there…. It was amazing! The entire house seems to have grown from the rock all on it’s own. I returned from the trip and wrote my final paper on Fallingwater. Since then I...

Virtual Dining Table Challenge - Hundertwasser Table

2527 days ago by daltxguy | 12 comments »

Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) was an Austrian Painter and sculptor. Born in Austria he lived and worked primarily in Vienna but eventually made New Zealand his permanent home. He was one of Austria’s best known contemporary artists though he remains controversial. I first got to know Hundertwasser from my own time spent living in Vienna and like Hundertwasser I too now make my home in New Zealand, so it seemed appropriate to use his work as my inspiration. The common themes in hi...

Fall SketchUp Challenge - Empire State Dining Table

2529 days ago by Brad_Nailor | 22 comments »

I have always been a big fan of the art deco style and early 20th century skyscrapers so I decided to combine both for inspiration for my virtual table design. After plowing through tons of images I found a really great art deco mirror from the 1930’s that really inspired me for the tabletop..For the leg inspiration I used my favorite skyscraper ever designed The Empire State Building!...So this is it..my Art Deco Empire State Dining Table! The material is tiger maple and wenge. The top...

Virtual table #2: Mt. St. Mich Trestle Table

2531 days ago by scottb | 14 comments »

Not far south of my ancestral homeland (one of them anyhow, as Americans tend to be from lots of places) on the French side of the English Channel – near the Blanchard Straights in fact, you’ll find Mont Saint Michel, a tidal penninsula on the Breton/Norman border. Constructed under, as well as commissioned by ancestors of mine (the Dukes of Normandy – future kings of England – and their forefathers, I feel a connection to the island, turned tidal penninsula, turned...

old growth table

2534 days ago by Bob Babcock | 13 comments »

I’ve always been fascinated by large trees. I remember as a kid being amazed by them. I was 12 years old when my mother and I went out to visit my brother in Calif. We took a ride up to see the sequoia’s. What an amazing feeling to walk amongst them. I still carry it with me to this day. My daughters think i’m a little weird. My oldest daughter went to Salve Regina in Newport for awhile and during every visit I would walk the campus admiring the extraordinary tree collect...

Folsom Stadium Dining Room Table

2537 days ago by steved | 10 comments »

I love College Football in general, and specifically the CU Buffaloes. So, I used Folsom Field as inspiration. I also used Layout, which comes with SketchUp Pro, and used the style feature to add a more hand drawn look in certain views.

Challenge 03 Entry - Bridge Dining Table

2538 days ago by RickInTexas | 12 comments »

So after missing out on the last challenge, I made myself get this one done before time ran out. Let me first start by showing my influence. This shows the column and cap design that I like that we are using for bridges around the Houston area. I work for Texas Dept. of Transportation, so I thought that doing a table inspired by not one single location, but by all the bridges that I have been around for the past couple years. This second one shows the beams between two bent caps. So here it ...
