Summer Challenge 2007 - A Bridge Too Short #2: Resawing Cedar

532 days ago by Bob Babcock | 9 comments »

I finally got started on cutting the planks for the bridge. I hope I can get this done in time to submit as my entry. I may have to submit some previous projects if I don’t get finished this weekend. I bought my son-in-law this Dewalt contractors saw last weekend as a gift for helping me install all new windows in the house. I like it so much I’m going to put one on my birthday/christmas/fathers day gift list ( all tools on that list as you can imagine) Very light, powerful, ni...

Summer Challenge 2007 - A Bridge Too Short #1: The Wood.....Being Green!

554 days ago by Bob Babcock | 2 comments »

I couldn’t resist doing a blog on this. I have no illusions of winning the contest given the competition and since the whole idea of LJ is to share I wanted to do just that. So…no cards close to the chest here…I’m showing my hand. Many of you have seen the bridge in our garden. I built it as a “temporary” solution 8 years ago from some leftover fence. Well it’s starting to show its age and I figure it will be great to kill two birds with one stone....

Thorsen Side Table Challenge #4: Winner Announcement

572 days ago by Martin Sojka | 28 comments »

Popular Woodworking has announced the winner of the Thorsen Table Challenge. Before we get to that, I want to congratulate all of the winners—everyone who took part in the challenge and enjoyed the process, the laughter, the teasing, and the inspiration that we have shared over the past three months. I would again like to thank Karson and Obi for this great idea. It has really been a lot of fun and we have met many more LumberJocks because of it! Thank you. And now for the ...

Thorsen Side Table Challenge #3: Last Day Reminder

587 days ago by Martin Sojka | 0 comments »

As you know this is the last day (in CDT time) to submit your entry into the Thorsen Table Challenge. I’d like to remind you of the proper way to submit the project. The most important thing is to submit your entry as the project and not as the blog entry. Many of you have tracked your progress in the exciting blog series. But at the end you must add your table as the project too (and don’t forget to link back to your blog series from the project story to make it easy for other...

Coming along very slowly on g and g.

623 days ago by jockmike2 | 5 comments »

I have one more apron to cut out on the scroll saw. So tedious, hard for me to sit for long and use the saw. Few minutes at a time. Still I got lucky again. I was going out to visit my Mom’s grave today and right across from the cemetary along side the road was a hugh red oak that had just been dropped. I stopped talked with Mom for a minute then took off for city hall a the DPW. My cousin works for the town DPW and he was there working on something on the work bench. I asked him where...

Thorsen Table Challenge #1: It's a start

625 days ago by roundabout22 | 5 comments »

The whole reason I joined Lumberjocks was because I wanted to get some information about the Thorsen Table Challenge. After spending countless hours here I decided I better at least attempt a table. SWMBO said that I could only build a table if the wood choice matched the bedroom furniture (The Wife’s Dresser). So sorry Obi, but it is going to be made out of pine. I decided to add some Cedar for a contrasting wood Just to do something different I went with a brick laid patt...

When it rains it pours

628 days ago by scottb | 7 comments »

... literally and figuratively. If you’ve been following the weather (or live in the northeast) you are no doubt aware of all the rain and flooding we’re dealing with this week. There was a landslide almost in my backyard closing a state highway. Five days later, and it’s still closed. A clean up crew came monday (while schools were closed and businesses were shut down) and attempted what clean up they could manage before instability threated them… thus, the clean u...
