The end date for my Dad’s auction is a little less than a week away (June 25). Every time I look at listing on the auction sight I can’t believe how much stuff there is. I said in my first blog about this auction that “all” his tools and remaining stock of lumber was up for sale. That isn’t quite true my brother and I have kept a few tools and a stock of wood for our own use in years to come. But it’s hard to believe that what we have kept is maybe a fourth...

Just a little video I shot today of the gantry router doing rough cutting on a little project. Maybe tomorrow I will finish it and show you what it eventually turns out to be. I had a long day today and wanted an easy and pretty quick project to work on so I grabbed this 3d model I had played with over the weekend.

Hi everyone,
Here’s a Maloof Inspired Shoe Bench built a while back, but the templates and instruction booklet are now available. This one was built from Bubinga, which made it a bit heavier than normal, but will probably outlast my grandkids.
Quite a fun little project, especially my favorite part….the handles.
Enjoy!

See if you can guess what I am carving on! I’ll put the answer at the bottom of this post. Some friends approached me about making a housewarming present for a new music director at our church. The wood appears to be spruce. It carves like cedar, in that it is soft but splinters easily, sands easily, and it doesn’t really have the color or smell of cedar. I have always wanted to get better at relief carvings, especially wildlife, with the hopes of some day carving a few gunsto...

I got the burning completed this morning. Lots of little scales! They are easy to do, but it is important that they be going the right direction and I change sizes in different areas to indicate more flexibility or bends. I sprayed it with water to judge how it will look with a finish.. pear really is an attractive wood! I won’t be able to work on it for several days, so I should have plenty of time to decide whether to paint it or not. My original plan was to paint, primarily becau...

I got the shape all blocked out and carved. I ran into a few insect holes, but I filled them and a few checks where the limbs were with some epoxy putty. I decided I would carve the eyes rather than order some glass ones. I’ve been wanting to try a technique I’ve heard others mention using epoxy to give them a realistic look.
Here you can see the size of the carving and stick. It is not a tall stick, but you can rest your hand on the end or hold it slightly below the top.

I need a Bench
I don’t have a Bench except for my wee carving one
Many Shop projects have one thing in common
They don’t get finished and get put on hold
I know, I’ve started selecting timber for the bench many times
It oddly becomes part of a customers order
This time however I’m expecting an overseas visit from a fellow
Lumberjock
When?
I dont know yet, I only found out today
Who?
Well until I find out the date, let me keep that a se...
