This blog is all about my work in my shop, detailing the trials and tribulations I experience there. I had been a woodworker, in the most peripheral sense, most of my life. Typical outport kind, I guess, building things with Dad out in the garage. I’ve built a significant portion of sheds, cottages, decks, installed windows, doors, siding, poured concrete, worked on asphalt, etc, etc, ad nausium. It’s all good though, Woodworking (as just one of my many hobbies) quiets a part of my soul that ...
My name is Robin Gosse, living in a (very) small town on the northern tip of the island-portion of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We are WAY out in the Atlantic ocean, farther East than New England region of the USA, well above 50 degrees of latitude. My wife and I recently bought a house with a huge garage, and I’ve begun the adventure of renovating it into a proper woodworking studio. Please visit my blog page and join in my adventure of home ownership, woodwor...
Shopsmith Jointer A few months ago I decided to change my Garage Setup due to space constrains and because IWas very interested in trying the Shopsmith At a decent price I got a Mark V with Band Saw and Jointer. The Table Saw Blade was still in a working ShapeBut a lot of corrosion on the Bed of the Jointer I try it once but the fence had an issue…missing parts or broken damage so I decided n to use itAnd due to my priorities the use of the jointer was not the #1 Im working in th...

This has to be the most amazing woodworking documentary I have ever seen. At every step, he does something I would never have thought of. This documentary shows how a canoe is built the old way. César Newashish, a 67-year-old Attikamek of the Manawan Reserve north of Montreal, uses only birchbark, cedar splints, spruce roots and gum. Building a canoe solely from the materials that the forest provides may become a lost art, even among the Native peoples whose traditional craft it is. Th...
A month or so ago, Kevin posted a blog about his woodshow Niagara Falls (Canada). Rick and I decided to make the 2-1/2 hour drive, to hand-deliver some LJ pencils, meet Kevin in person, and have a lovely drive as a bonus. The drive was lovely and, having given ourselves lots of “get lost time” we arrived at the Home Depot at about 9:30 AM. At the wood show, I met Kevin, did a quick handshake and then headed off to the restrooms. (That was the last I saw of Kevin. He received...
