Sharing wood resources #1: I don't know why didn't think of this before

Hi LJ buddies! At the moment I am in the midst of a 7 week hiatus from the workshop and traveling across country in an RV. I am presently in Buellton, CA. Leave tomorrow for Pasadena to attend a family reunion. Along the way, I have kept my eye out for sources of uniquely Western or California wood to make something out of when I get back into the shop. If anyone knows a place where I can buy some slabs, turning stock, even furniture wood to carry back I would appreciate it. I know...

Since the last post I have been very busy figuring out how to make this work. I have met lots of generous and helpful people including architects and designers, artists, lawyers, engineers, and teachers. I found a great business partner and we are working on some really exciting ideas. Giant Bandsaw located at Laguna Beach, California

I was down in Laguna and took some pictures of this reputed 38,000 lb behemoth. My guess is the wheel diameter is 66”-72”. Curiously the height capacity betweenthe guide blocks is only about 14”, so the saw must have been used in a differentsetup for initial slabbing of logs, or a different saw was used for the rough workwith the big trees and this saw was used for cutting dimensioned beams.
