Well, I never did have the time to post the progress of this project as the actual progress occurred but it was completed and now I have a few moments to finish up this series and check it off my list.
This project was much more time consuming than I anticipated but a good learning experience as it had several challenges. I’m relatively proud of it and KT loves it as we have a closet again (our clothes have been hanging from a hand rail supported by the two sides of our loft balcony ...

Let's Get Ready To Rumble!!!! (Poly)
Time for the last coat before work. Luckily it goes on smooth.
T - 8 Hours
Mission assemble the cabinets and attach face frames.
We decided to atttach the frame to the cabinet that needed a flush edge first. Then screw the second cabinet to this assembly.

Under Pressure
I don’t know about the rest of you, but glue up stresses me out. Even though we had dry fit the doors, I feel that time crunch as soon as I spread the glue.

Clamp it
Check for square by measuring across the diagonals

I got my first ‘commission’ a few days ago. I occasionally play golf with a friend, Dan, who has just moved into a new place and has inherited an older 50” big screen. Over a post-round beer, he mentioned he needs a sturdy stand and asked me how the woodworking skills were coming along and if I might be interested… We chatted, made a sketch on a napkin, and now I’m working on some designs in SketchUp.
He’s getting a ‘bargain’ cuz he’s a...

I’m closing in on completing the construction of the wall cabinet. Progress this past week has been on the hinge mortises. I’ve got the mortises in the doors done, as well as two of the four in the case.
I’m cutting the mortises by hand – using a marking gauge to mark the depth and width and doing the rest with a chisel. It’s slow work – the door frames and case are maple, after all, but satisfying.
Here’s a picture of one of the mortises, wi...

Baby Got BackToday we completed our four cabinet boxes’ parts by cutting the groove for the backs. This sounds simple but we had to do a ton of double checking.
Plus, I don’t think I mentioned that my biscuit joiner needed a little tune up. After last week’s dry fit, I realized that several of the cabinet rails had slightly miscut biscuits. So we recut 10 rails today. Screwing down the biscuit joiner helped as well.
So, on to the tablesaw to cut the groove and trim the...
