So maybe this isn’t a butcher block glue-up in the traditional sense, but it is a very close relative with similar construction, design, and look. See how Scott has assembled butcher-block to be used to make bar stool seats! If the video doesn’t appear, CLICK HERE to watch it now!
I’m working on this coffee table as a wedding gift for my cousin and his wife-to-be. I’m a log furniture maker so there are a lot of techniques I haven’t been introduced to until I started working with fellow Lumber Jock, Kris Williams. Kris makes fine rustic furniture so I’ve been quite fascinated by some of the ways he does things and decided to start playing around with some of it. Of course, I don’t have all the machines Kris has so I require his help for a f...
I always feel like I just won the lottery when I acquire something for free. This is probably the nicest free thing I have ever snagged. It is made by ULINE and is a solid butcher block top with metal frame workbench. I really like the adjustable height. I am taller than most and develop back pain when working on normal counter height benches or surfaces. With the optional drawer these things retail for over $400 brand new! It is 60” long and 30” deep which is a great size for my ...
I wanted to make a tiny walnut box from a piece of walnut. This tiny box is for a colleague of mine who’s expecting a big wedding anniversary. First, you’ve got to go hunting for a good log. A dog is good for this. Once a nice walnut log is found, you’re in business. This one was in a scrap pile. You’ll want to resaw this log. This isn’t THE log, but you get the picture. Here’s my log resawn into 1/2 inch planks using a 3/4 inch 3tpi ...
Well I am just about there. I got 1 coat of Watco drying on it right now. I’ll knock down the shine when im done applying. I will probably give the top about 4 coats of butcher block oil when all is said and done as it really seemed to absorb the first coat almost instantly. The metal feet were installed only to allow me to coat the whole unit without getting anymore stains on my shop floor. They will be removed when im done. Check it out All comments are welcomeThanks fo...
So far so good. I ran into a couple hickups here and there but im still on target. About now I am wishing I had a drum sander, Jointer and a drill press. Please Santa come soon! These things probably would have made this venture much easier, but with a lil elbow grease and some buckets of sweat I have been able to get most of the hard work done. On to the highlights… Im still sanding, yeah, yeah, yeah….. Got the table base built up and doing a dry fit on the top. I bought th...
Well so far so good. I finally got my new table saw (thanks honey!) and im pretty much in love with it. lol. So here we go on the butcher block table. Im looking for about a 24×18X4 top that will stand about 34” high. Lets get to it shall we…..Oh wait, first things first. Pic of the saw Ok, back to the butcher block table. I bought about 25bf of maple (ouch) and had em rip it for me right quick to save me some time. (cost about 25 bucks) no biggy, but now im thinking I...
