So you want to go pro #3: Business Person vs Manufacturer

236 days ago by odie | 4 comments »

Along the way, we made a very conscience decision to offer our products at prices most people that visited arts and crafts shows could afford. We are both very capable of making the perfect art quality products. You know what I mean, cut around the imperfection instead of putting it on the inside out of sight. Using 10 coats of finish instead of 6. My personal favorite, and the one I use, is to make 10 boxes at once instead of only one. Over half of my time is spent setting up a machine to do...

So you want to go pro #2: Business Plan or not to Business Plan

237 days ago by odie | 3 comments »

Shame on us, we don’t have a business plan. Never did and never will have one. We knew what we wanted to accomplish. Banks and loan institutions insist on you having a business plan. All professional people (lawyers, accountants, and the like) will advise you to have one. I didn’t need a loan to get started, but if you are one that does need a loan, start writing. A bank will want to know that you have all of your ducks in a row. This business plan will be put in front of loan and management ...

"Waunderings in Ones Back-Yard WoodLot" --by RusticWoodArt

237 days ago by frank | 6 comments »

Waunderings in Ones Back-Yard WoodLot ....crunching the landscape of snowflakes, i soon took a waundering walkabout, where all is silently content within their respected milieu, awaiting those birthing pangs that signal a spectacular spring….. —-were it not for these striving images of imagination, who would be found to come and rescue a soul such as i,since long ago in times of olden beholden begotten wood turnings,i walked right out of sight from those who had long tried to...

So you want to go pro #1: For now I'm gathering my thoughts

238 days ago by odie | 6 comments »

OK boys and girls or OK girls and boys This is my first attempt at a “blog”. I don’t even understand what it is. To start with, it is my first priority to be FUNNY. At my age, if you ask a woman or a man what is the most important thing in a marriage they will say a sense of humor. Those of you 40+ out there know what I mean. So you want to start a business. This hopefully will be a series of do’s and don’ts of starting your own woodworking (((or what ever ((f...

Surrounded by Wood and Snow --RusticWoodArt

240 days ago by frank | 10 comments »

Surrounded by Wood and Snow ....and so once again the gods said; ”let there be snow” and on the second day of the new year there was…. Up here in New England I sometimes wonder if I’m being ‘snowed in’ or ‘snowed out’? I don’t have a lot of extra time this morning as I’m soon out the door, after some breakfast….to get this place opened up. Now some may wonder what’s the difference to being ‘snowed in’...

The Best of 'Wood Art" #9: "Prepping the Wood" --by RusticWodArt

242 days ago by frank | 4 comments »

....furthering my ganders, as one would take on examining their progress in the principles of what it take to work the wood by hand! Some-times it does my soul best to just stop and take an inventory of what is happening here with the tools and the wood. Many are the stages of phases that go into the making of a piece of ‘wood art’....design, working the wood by hand, but there all-ways is the need to pay attention to the care and detail of my tools and wood. Further Notes on: ...

The Best of 'Wood Art" #8: "Expressions of Wood Milieu" --by RusticWoodArt

243 days ago by frank | 4 comments »

Expressions of Wood Milieu ....continuing on the journey here with wood ripping gusto, is soon found to be a harmony of the joys of hand to wood, only separated by the fine steel blade of my 13” 9TPI pull handsaw. No-dust collection system needed here, no-dangers of kickback, no-need to break my bank savings, no-need for ear protection, (although one would want to wear eye protection) no-wondering about the what if’s when certain thoughts cross the mind of the male populatio...
