Kitchen Remodel #17: Its been 2445 days since I last posted on my Buffet build

02-14-2014 12:27 AM by Karson | 7 comments »

Well it’s been 2445 days since my last post on my buffet build. As I stated in the first posting my wife said that you are not doing anything until I get my kitchen. I got up to blog entry 5 before the kitchen got hot (You know what I mean). So then blogs 6 through 16 were on the kitchen cabinet build. That finished and so I started to clean up my shop and I had my son-in-law help me to move a table saw to the middle of the shop and move a portable workbench to the wall area where th...

Custom Buffet #1: The Plan

09-29-2013 03:46 AM by MT_Stringer | 0 comments »

What started as a leaking kitchen faucet has turned in to a kitchen remodel. However, I convinced my wife that before tearing up the kitchen, we should build a buffet in the dining room. If all goes well, then we will tackle the kitchen next year. We have been living in this house since July 1987. It has been paid for for several years and all of our kids are grown so it is just me and the missus. The cabinets are vintage 1983 oak but their time has come and gone. I don’t like the...

Building a Houseful of Furniture #3: Living Room and Dining Room

03-24-2013 08:15 PM by DustyMark | 4 comments »

Watch this video to take a short tour of the furniture I’ve made in my living room and dining room. These rooms are the first thing you see when you walk into our house. Unfortunately, the living room had very little furniture that I’d made. My wife and I came up with a furniture plan to resolve that and I’m well on my way to filling the living room with hand-crafted furniture. The rocking chairs are quite comfortable and I love the sweeping lines. The foot stools...

Arts and Crafts Entertainment Center / Sideboard #4: Central splat, Drawers, and Doors

03-18-2013 07:47 PM by pintodeluxe | 5 comments »

This is where I am at currently on the entertainment center.-----There is an interesting central splat detail, inspired by Kevin Rodel’s arts and crafts dining chair. -----It is a series of slats glued together with the thin parts let into grooves. I found it was best to cut the tenons before creating the stopped grooves. With my first trial I cut the grooves first, and experienced some chipout cutting the tenons. -----The splat has some nice shadow lines, and forms three small squ...

Buffet Strip and Refinish #2: Sanding & Dust

04-16-2012 09:54 PM by Chris Pond | 3 comments »

After getting all the old finished off the buffet, actual this piece was very nice. You may see that in the photos I added a second 1/4 inch plywood piece to the second shelve for strength. I will finish this with a veneer for a better looked. As you see I still have two burns in the top of the unit however I am going to stain the top to make it less seen.

A glass top table with opposing arches

06-05-2008 01:46 AM by John Fry | 16 comments »

I call this the “Opposing Arches” table. This commissioned glass top display table, or buffet, is 50” wide at the base, 14” deep and 29” tall. It supports a piece of glass that is ¾” thick by 18” by 66”. The construction is shop sawn zebrawood veneers, laminated on two layers of 1/8” poplar bending ply, on a curved torsion box inner core. The curved members are then framed in sold quarter sawn sapelli. The divider box is shop sawn veneer, cut from a very fine grained piece of Macassar...
