Oh For Keepsake! Its that time of year again: HOLIDAY PROJECT TIME! So this year, I decided to make a few little keepsake boxes, thanks to some advice from The Great WOODini. I also took inspiration from a box Nicole keeps on her nightstand and developed a new design that is much more practical for the average woodworker to make. The boxes feature a secret locking pin. Once removed, the lid slides off on a sliding dovetail. And as always with these holiday gift projects, you can modify them by trying diffe... The Ultimate Band Saw Box BookThe book is here now- and I still have a few copies left that I can dedicate, sign, and send off. Let me know if you want one and how you want it signed. Just for Fun... #46: Boxes in my Blood...Is it possible, that box addiction is hereditary?? I was going through some of my Grandparent’s and my Dad’s things and discovered that they all had a certain fondness for small wooden boxes!!None of them were home-made, but there were some fairly nice ones in the bunch… Dad’s Parents had a habit of buying His and Hers, so there was two of these little beauties… These were USED and look it, but I’m impressed by the thinness of the wood used in these̷... Woodworking For A Good CauseMy wife, Rita, manages a daily program that keeps adults with developmental disabilities busy. She works personally with these individuals and we see first hand how this program enriches the lives of the participants and their families. Most of them are affected by down syndrome. We choose to support this program every year with donations for the fundraising auction. This year I donated the red bamboo sofa table. This was originally made with the intention of it being a donation. ... Tool tote travel #3: finger joints on a template / jig.Tool tote travel 3finger joints on a template / jig This is third part of the tool tote travel. Now I have cut dovetails by hand, so it’s time to play with machines again…This time some finger joints, since it’s a learning experience. I bought some years ago a router template for finger joints, and half blind dovetails.I paid 100$ on a sale and never opened the box… So now it was time! I found a 10 mm router bit as the set needed, and made a test cut on some plywood… O... more boxes #5: I have been experimenting with Martyn's EZMitre technizueI have made three boxes, in different stages now, using the EZMitre technique. I have to say these are the best mitres I have ever cut. Careful measurement is key, but it’s a very repeatable process. I’ll post the finished products once completed. Box Building #2: New WebsiteI have been busy lately, not only building boxes, but beginning to try and market them. I just opened my website throuh Volusion. http://www.volusion.com/ After checking out several companies like them, I thought they fit my needs the best. You can set up to take credit cards through them, so it is pretty much one stop shopping. The template I chose is free, but they offer upgrades if you want. Then they charge a monthly fee. That varies according to the plan you choose. Check it out... Box Building #3: Photography Light BoxI posted one of my boxes earlier in the week and promised I would blog my light box.If you have researched this you will know I obviously did not come up with this idea. In fact, I think there are others on Ljs. This is simply my version. I am a woodworker, not a photographer, so take all this with a grain of salt. As I develop the box further, I will add to the blog. I have not done anything yet I didn’t tweak over time, so why change now, huh! It’s called design evolution, not f... Exhibition #2: Ready, Steady, stop er go!Hello all. The time has finally come around for my ‘Mini-Exhibition’ at the local museum. As most of my work is relatively small the size of the display case I was to be exhibiting in, 40” x 26” x 9”, was not at all constricting. Then last Friday comes a frantic phone call from Jenny, the administrator. It appears the other exhibition that is running concurrently, about canal restoration, turned up with some unexpected and very rusty ironwork. Not the sort of ... |
