Welcome back to another installment of the chess corner! Today’s topic are turning knights for a chess set.I would say the knights are the most difficult piece to create as you have to turn it, then carve it out of whatever wood you are using for the set which may end up being tricky. I was bored and out of mojo yesterday so I grabbed this piece of stump and relief carved out this ornamental flower on the face with a pattern and a 1/4 ” spiral bit in a hand router.I then fiddled around with a carver set and scooped out the petals a bit.Sometimes it’s good to try something you have no clue about.I’m going to paint the flower and set the stump out among the flowers in spring.
p.s. you can see where I ploughed right through the bark in a couple of places....
