When I first set up my shop, I bought a Delta 50-760 DC. It works well enough, but when jointing and planing a lot of wood the plastic bag fills up fairly rapidly and it is a PAIN to take off, empty and then re-install. Once you get the hang of it, the process is easier but it’s never easy and it almost inevitably ends up with a bunch of saw dust all over.

I’ve recently been in the market for a new dust collector. I really care about filtration, but do I really need a shop fox or grizzly portable cyclone, or should I go for a cheaper single stage model. I am just a hobbyist with a small shop in a two car garage. Any recommendations?

Until recently the dust collection system, in my basement shop, consisted of a broom, dust pan and window fan. Then a really good Craig’s List find and some some subtle hints from Mimi (”YOU do the dusting and you’ll see just how bad it is!!”) has upgraded the old way. Although the system isn’t the most powerful- 1 1/2 hp- it has really made a difference; especially when I remember to open the correct blast gate. Okay i’ve been asked to show how my shop vac dust deputy system works so here it is.
I have the smaller ridgid shop vac from home depot under my ras inside the cabinet stuffed with insulation enough to dampen the noise but still let the motor cool and exhaust as it should. So fan no problems (-:
