Amazing Day at the Salvage Store 26FEB2016

02-27-2016 09:40 PM by Dex378 | 1 comment »

So after talking to the owner of the salvage store for a little while he let me go down and pick the basement where all of the items from his estate buy outs go before they put them on the sales floor. I was floored with the amount of stuff that he had down there. Picture a room the size of a football field filled with boxes, trunks, shelves and crates FILLED with amazing stuff. I picked for about 2 hours and found everything we like from vintage, rare Stanley #18 Sweetheart plane, a Stanley ...

Shop stuff #40: ZCI for the Bosch Glide Mitre

02-26-2016 11:31 PM by JimDaddyO | 2 comments »

Not quite happy with the insert provided by Bosch, I decided to build my own. It is a pretty common thing on most mitre saws and should help give a nicer cut. Of course, I kept the original in case I have to tilt it over on the bevel adjustment. This will handle everything else. I rarely use the bevel anyway. I just stick to mitres and straight cuts for the most part. I am still getting accustomed to Lightworks. It is much more powerful than what I need, but I am getting some of my r...

Curved Front End Table #2: Curved Veneered Front Doors

02-23-2016 11:01 PM by Guy Dunlap | 6 comments »

Now that the carcass for the tables are just about complete, I set out to build the doors. First, I re-saw some cherry to 1/32” for the layers of the panel. I make a form and then using bendable plywood and the veneer, they go into the vacuum bag to make the curved doors. Then a skin of quilted cherry veneer goes on the front and back of the doors. This was a lot of fun, and I hope I don’t bore you by showing the whole process. As always, I welcome your questions and comments! ...

First Yard Sale of 2016 21Feb16

02-21-2016 11:21 PM by Dex378 | 1 comment »

Had to run to the jobs site today to make sure one of the subs had everything he needed (of course he didn’t , but hey, he works 14 hour days on Sunday’s!)Anyway on the way back home I saw a little yard sale going on so I pulled up and found this gem of a hand saw, pretty damn rare and one I don’t have! It’s a Harvey W. Peace Brooklyn New York with the 1887 Patent Date! It’s in pretty good shape too! And if you guys read my stupid blog you know I am a...

Curved Front End Table #1: Case Construction

02-14-2016 11:27 PM by Guy Dunlap | 13 comments »

This is the start of a build for an end table. It will have curved front doors, a curved drawer, and the doors and drawer will have a book matched veneer. In this video, I start by pattern routing the front pieces, and then work on the case construction and the solid cherry book matched side panels. The case is put together with all mortise and tenon joinery, and even a few blind dovetails. As always, I welcome your questions and comments! To keep up with what I’ve got going on in...

Dust Collection??

02-02-2016 01:14 PM by Bob Rodrigues | 10 comments »

I’m in the market now for a dust collector. Being married with 2 kids there really isn’t a lot of money I can budget for this at this time. I’ve read the reviews on the Harbor Freight dust collector but I’m wondering If I could get some woodworkers perspective that have this unit. How is it? Does it work well? And is it ok to run pvc or gutter sewerage pipe instead of the metal stove type of piping???? Any info on this topic from all LJ’s would be great.
