Does anyone else – when working with black walnut – think it smells delicious? I just want to eat it whenever I’m cutting it. I was recently cutting out a ball blank from a glue-up of walnut, maple, and wenge, the latter two of which don’t really have a smell when cut. But the walnut! A Great Breakfast
Rita and I had a great breakfast and visit with Dave Mitchell and his wife. They are passing through Billings and stayed at the campgrounds down the street since they are pulling their little camp trailer.
We had a nice visit last night. I gave him the shop tour and showed the few pieces that we have been able to keep over the years.
Now they have left it is time to get back on this little project for Rita.

Crossin’ it off the list!
It was just a small project but one that I had neglected since December 2008 and since October 2007 before that. That was the original start date.
Anyway, I finished it up today and Mama’s happy so everybody’s happy. I also reclaimed a little space that it was taking up in the shop. It is amazing how those little projects eat up space on the shelves.

I thought I would try my hand at writing a blog here. This is a totally different way for me as far as patterns go. I am used to a pattern that is on a sheet of paper the size the object will be when done. and then you make copies and cut out the pieces of the paper pattern and place them on your wood. I am working on a couple Pelicans that I am hoping to incorporate into a “big picture” somehow. They are done completely in hardwoods and I was thinking of perhaps sharing how I sanded little pieces such as these. I have already started and as you can see I still have pencil marks for an eye on one. Yeah, that’s right – 2 years…
I plan on finishing this little cabinet up this weekend and I will post more details. The cabinet is made of black walnut and the drawers are made of curly ambrosia maple. This is a great combination.

After some online snooping, it looks like the branch I found the other day is of the Juglandaceae Family, which is to say it’s a walnut. Here’s some evidence…

Hey Guys,
I told a friend I’d try and sell some of his black walnut so here’s the offer. I’m trying to put together a package deal since he wants to sell all 7000 bf of it in one fell swoop, of course it doesn’t have to be all one buyer.
