[Finished project here] I find myself building a casket for one of our pet birds that passed yesterday. The box itself is straight forward enough, but the stumbling block I had was how to close it. While an ash urn is usually closed from the bottom, a casket closes from the top. It took me some thinking, but I finally figured out that I need to hinge the lid and create a way to fasten it shut without going overboard. I’ll be creating my own hinges from wood blocks and a length of ...
Here is a Bird Feeder that I made recently. It turned out great. Check out my video below and I have a more detailed entry over at my other site on woodlogger.com Youtube Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCunBB15jcs
Here was a recent project that I completed. It’s a woodpecker feeder. It’s very similar to the ones you can find in the big box stores. It makes a great gift, and can be done in just a couple hours. As always you can check out my website at: www.woodlogger.com to see more projects, videos, and a list of Free Project Plans Youtube Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfsmpdBIiHs
Today’s post will be really, really quick! I was just beginning to write and a big storm came through our area. It went from light to dark very quickly and the rain came down in buckets for a bit. Naturally, I shut things down and unplugged them, as it wasn’t worth the risk to keep online. In any case, all has passed and it has calmed down and I am going to write quickly and briefly (Yes – I can!) just to tell you a couple of things that I wanted to share with you. Fir...
Here was an easy project that I did recently; a Hummingbird Feeder. You only need one board for this project and it’s something you can build in a few hours. Here is my attempt at making a video of how I made it, and as always you can check out my website at: www.woodlogger.com to see more projects and videos of what I’m doing in the shop.
Enjoy some shop time with your children by creating an easy built birdhouse. Product cost is approximately $3, time spent was about 30-40 minutes. You can let them make their birdhouse unique by adding paint.
I created a video on what I did to build a Bird House with a clear plexiglass window on the back of the house. This was a fun and quick project to do on a weekend. Check out the video below or read more about it over at woodlogger.com Here is the end result
This is the finished bird that I started 2 weeks ago. It took about 24 hours to get it to this stage. I still need to make a mount for the bird, and I’d like to make it unique. That means no ‘bird on a stick’, but also not the trite ‘wren on the edge of the cup/bucket/shoe’ environment. I’ve been wracking my poor little brain trying to figure out something unique and good- that I can do in 3 weeks. Any suggestions.ideas would be appreciated. ThanksNow to th...
What do you think will keep you from woodworking? Well, here’s a news story to keep you going back to the shop!! Mr. Milburn of Union County Mississippi! Look to the upper right corner for the video story. I hope they keep it on the site.
I have been getting ready to make some visual bird houses for my grand kids. They will have a red window in the back for viewing. They can be hung in front of the kids bedroom windows so they can watch all the action of the birdlings. Both our kids have split entry houses so the bedrooms are plenty high enough off the ground. I am using some free cedar fencing cutoffs. They will not be finished, just natural. I am going to pre-drill some nail holes so the kids can nail them together t...
