My Journey As A Scroll Saw Pattern Designer #1209: Two New Projects on the Go

102 days ago by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 5 comments »

You know you have a pretty good life when you wake up in the morning and there are so many (good!) things that you need to do that you don’t know what to begin with. I can’t tell you how many times that has happened to me lately. It seems that more so than ever I have more ideas and projects in my head than time. And that is a wonderful feeling. After taking my week or so off from designing, I find that more so than ever I just can’t wait to get back at it. Even though...

My Journey As A Scroll Saw Pattern Designer #1207: Getting Back in the Swing of Things . . .

104 days ago by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 5 comments »

Oh – I just had to laugh at myself . . . I got up early this morning (just before six – which is good considering that I have been sleeping until almost seven over the holidays) and I got to the task of doing some ‘house cleaning’ on my computer. You know the stuff – organizing your files, answering emails, sorting through things – the usual. I got things pretty much under control and I am almost ready for a back up and to start working on my files f...

My Journey As A Scroll Saw Pattern Designer #1185: Re-painting Designs to Create the Pattern

130 days ago by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 2 comments »

I had a wonderful fun and relaxing day yesterday. Although – my idea of ‘relaxing’ may not be what you are used to seeing. I had an early dentists’ appointment. The tooth he fixed a couple of weeks ago was having some issues and he needed to do an adjustment on it. I do have a great dentist and he always seems to get me in quickly when I need him. This wasn’t an emergency though and I had called a couple of days ago and he was able to see me early yesterday...

My Journey As A Scroll Saw Pattern Designer #1183: "Snowman Collector"

132 days ago by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 9 comments »

This past summer I had the privilege of joining an incredibly talented and inspiring painter named Terrye French in her group she formed called “Painting With Friends.” When painting for the group, we are given rough line drawings or sketches that Terrye drew up and we are then invited to take the idea and run with it. We can develop it in any way we wish, and are encouraged to use our imagination and incorporate our own ‘style’ into it. Once we paint it and make ...

My Journey As A Scroll Saw Pattern Designer #1182: (One of) My Happy Place(s)

133 days ago by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 7 comments »

I often hear from people how much they wish they could be like me every day and just scroll saw or paint all day, every day. While I know that I feel very fortunate to be doing what I am doing, that isn’t always the case. Those of you who have been following me for any length of time realize that the actual scroll sawing or painting is only a small part of the process of owning your own business, and that those times are sometimes few and far between. I am not complaining though, a...

Sister's Remodel #3: Pantry 3

165 days ago by Nate Meadows | 10 comments »

Well, I am still sitting here in the hospital next to my beautiful wife. It was a long night, but the good news is that her pain is under control and that she is getting excellent care. Its really just a waiting game, letting the pancreas decide when it wants to stop attacking itself! Anyway, back to the pantry. I took a side trip to work on the Lazy Susan Tables. Before I go there though I must address one issue. When I am creating something, anything, a thousand things run through my min...

Sister's Remodel #2: Pantry 2

166 days ago by Nate Meadows | 14 comments »

Picking up were I left off… With the shelf tops cut, I could then place them on the ribbing I had put in. I chose to use the Kreg Micro Jig as my method of attachment. It provide the most amount of screw length with the lest amount of strength lose. Before I assembled the ribbing I had to drill all the pocket holes; it was messy but fun. I applied Titebond III on all the ribs before laying the self down, then secured the self from underneath every 6 inches or so with a...

Sister's Remodel #1: Pantry

166 days ago by Nate Meadows | 8 comments »

One of the things my sister really needed was a new pantry. Correction, she needed a pantry period. All she had was a coat closet and a small cupboard. I initially had no intention of blogging about my work at her house. She was and is going through so much that I just put my head down and pushed through it to help her as I could. But as I continued to work, and time moved on and the sting lessoned I considered it. I ended up thinking sharing what I was doing might be good to show that I am u...

My Journey As A Scroll Saw Pattern Designer #1148: Different Finishes on My Key Ornaments

190 days ago by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 5 comments »

Yesterday was filled by doing lots of odds and ends. Among other things, I was trying to get some planning done for our upcoming trip to Chicago. I haven’t mentioned it much because things have been so up in the air about everything that it has seemed like things have changed every five minutes. It is a little unsettling to say the least. Add to that the issues with my car. It is nothing that I would consider to be “major”, but nonetheless it is a ten year old car with...

My Journey As A Scroll Saw Pattern Designer #1146: New Saw - New Projects

192 days ago by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 14 comments »

I had planned on finishing up my drawings for the next design that I am sending to the magazine yesterday. But with that new saw sitting in the corner there just BECKONING to me, there was no way that I could NOT spend some time on it! I suppose that one good thing about owning your own business is that you get to decide what needs to be done (and when!) So much of what we self-employed people do is self-goverened. (Humm . . . could that be why so many self-employed people aren’t su...
