Whew!
That was a close one! Brian Havens and I worked on the Shaker Bench for Charity right up to the last minute.
The social mixer and appetizers started at 6:00p.m. This was when the items went on view for both the silent and live auction.
I was spraying the final coat of lacquer on the drawers at 5:50p.m. while Brian showered and changed. Then I showered and changed while Brian and my wife Rita loaded the bench in the vehicle.
By the time I got dressed, the bench was al...

Whew!
We had a close one today. A tornado hit here in Billings, MT and it was visible from our property.
I did not see it as I was in another part of town working on a project. Rita called me about 4:30 and said she could see a funnel cloud out the window. She did not know at that time if it was moving toward our house or not.
We do not have a basement or viable crawlspace that could be used for shelter in such an event. I knew from her description that she had enough time to vacate ...

Yesterday turned out to be a good fall day. I had the south facing doors open for a while in the afternoon. With the sunlight and lack of wind the shop stayed comfortably warm even though the outside temps were cool.
But this is what we look like today. The forecast is for a high of 25°F and tonight it is predicted to hit 9°F. The wind is blowing pretty good too.
I am definitely not ready for this.
Dang.
Take me somewhere that I can leave the shop doors open and the dogs ...

Sorry for the False Start Guys…
I had the privacy setting turned on when I posted to YouTube. (D’oh!)
It’s Finally Here!
Whew! It takes a lot of work to shoot a video, edit, and get it posted to the internet.
I am still struggling with posting to the internet. My HD file sizes are too big to be accepted by BlipTv and YouTube, and once I get the size down to an acceptable limit, they lose quite a bit of quality. This is a bit frustrating and makes me sad to see al...

I hope that everyone had a good finish to the summer by spending quality time with the family over the long Labor Day weekend. My wife, Rita, and I went kayaking with friends on the Madison and Yellowstone Rivers here in Montana and we covered 17 miles between the two trips. Bald eagles and other wildlife were abundant and the scenery was – well it’s Montana so it was beautiful!
My apologies for not being very active this summer here at LJ and for the lack of providing real...

I have been playing around with my MacBook slideshow program today. There are a couple of ways to create slideshows and I figured out the simple method first. I will move forward to using the more complicated program later.
This is all leading up to me using the many still shots I have of my projects and using voice-over narration to share the construction details.
For now I have assembled a slideshow of the beautiful area that I live. If images from the movie “A River ...

I have had some incredible opportunities for projects in Ohio. In fact, almost all of my best work is in Ohio. I really owe all the thanks to my clients, the Coopers, for trusting in me and allowing me to run with my design ideas.
It has often been asked of me, why don’t I just move to Ohio? The following images were taken at a Billings city park called the “Four Dances Natural Area.” It is behind our house and across the Yellowstone River. We can look out our back yard u...
