Musical Instruments Restoration #8: Violin 2 - Jig for the ribs on action

07-15-2013 05:17 AM by BertFlores58 | 4 comments »

Took me a little while to do the steel work on the jig. Have to make the somewhat C-clamp with push block. Cutting threaded bars and looking for the nuts. Shaping the push blocks (made from ebony) become tiresome after making 16 pieces. These are made from scraps. Here are some self explanatory photos… I give notes on some important aspects and ideas that you can grab suited for your project and availability of materials: Notes: 1) The piece that was bended was narra ripped by ...

Poppin' Fresh Vacuum Press

03-07-2012 10:35 PM by Todd A. Clippinger | 19 comments »

I Just Had To Share The Excitement! I was getting ready to pull a project out of the vacuum press and I decided this would be the perfect time to shoot a test video for my new audio equipment. The article outlines three techniques for constructing wood rings: bent wood, layering, and combination. The author also nicely illustrates why a ring made from ...

Bent lamination in detail

10-22-2008 04:33 AM by bfd | 16 comments »

I was asked by a fellow Lumberjocker to further detail the process of bent lamination. I am sure that there are many of you FAR more qualified to document this then I but in the spirit of sharing knowledge and to honor a request I have blogged this process in a more indepth manor. Please note that I have included pictures from two separate projects. I start by building forms from MDF. I prefer to use light weight MDF if you can find it but the standard stuff works well too albeit alot h...
