Somewhere recently I was watching a video where Bench Cookies were mentioned. I then ran down into my shop and poured out the contents of my ‘wood wheels’ which are mainly the plugs I save from my hole saw. I had 4 plugs about 2 inches in diameter and close to 1 inch thick. I pulled out a place mat that I saved from the trash. It’s made from shelf liner material. I glued the plugs onto the placemat with contact cement and trimmed them out. Now I have 4 bench cookies...

Bench Cookies #1: Bench Cookies, great idea

After seeing bench cookies advertised in Rockler I had been thinking about getting some to replace the router pad I had been using but the price seemed a little steep. Friday I stopped at Lowe’s to pick up some sand paper and found some off brand bench cookies for $11.98 for four as opposed to the $29.95 Rockler wants. The only difference between the two is the color and they are great! They hold your work piece in place and also keep it up off the bench when you need a little clearance.

Picture a scene in 1978…Ten year old boy carefully scrutinizing the new JCPenney Christmas catalog. Decisions have to be made and so the boy looks through each item and sees how it would work with the current toy collection, whether it will enhance or detract from adventure scenes he has in his head. He wonders how that Big Jim camping gear will look in the toy camper he has in his room, does his GI Joe headquarters need another bunk bed? Thirty-two years later, same boy spent a day ...

Say what you like about the Bench Cookies, I really like mine. So when this contest came along I jumped at it, despite having no experience whatsoever making a video. But with the help of my mom as the onscreen actor, I think I’ve put together something fairly fun.
