Carved Backyard Bear #1: The Chickadees' are refurbishing our backyard Bear Carving.

This old Bear carving is being put to some good use, Maybe a Birdhouse. The other day I heard a pecking noise, & discovered a Chickadee pecking on our Bear. At first I thought he was eating ants, but I soon found out he was building a new birdhouse inside the Bear. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He could see it was hollow, by peeking in a hole up above.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here he turned around &...

I’m sorry, I haven’t been very active lately, I’ve been familiarizing myself with my new computer. It takes time to transfer the oodles of my picture files, plus learning a new system. We were up at our cabin a few days last week, closing it down for the season, & on the way home this Cub ran across in front of us. Teddy Bear Bank

I made a Teddy Bear like this for a Wood Magazine Toy Contest, a few years back. I made some more for my Grandkids. The one I made for the contest was Black Walnut. The dimensions of my bear is 3 1/2” X 4” X 6 1/4”. I hollowed out the inside on the lathe, before carving, but it could be done with a Forstner bit. I purchased a musical coin slot from Cherry Tree that plays Teddy Bear Picnic when you drop a coin in. The one pictured doesn’t have the coin slot. These a...
