It’s the month of December already and that only means one thing – Elf Mode. While it appears I am in Elf Mode every day, during the holidays it goes to a new level. Not only do I enjoy making most of the gifts that I give, but I also like to participate in many exchanges that are held from several of the forums that I frequent. Yes – I LOVE to receive small pieces of others’ work! Recently, in my never ending quest to be organized I purchased a nice brush box ...

When things slow down at work, I sometimes get to carve a bit in my office! I keep an extra glove, thumb guard, and a utility knife in my drawer, and it can be very calming to whittle on a ball or ornament or something for a few moments. I did this guy this afternoon, inspired by Don Mertz and Dave Stetson. He’s a little guy, about 2 1/2 inches total. Recently I purchased a Steam Bending Kit from Rockler Woodworking and Hardware so I could try out some Steam Bending. Bending wood is something I have never tried before and is out of my comfort zone. I wanted to dive into this area of woodworking and challenge myself as well as learn something new. So of the various forms of wood bending (Laminated Bending, Milled Bending, Steam Bending) I chose steam bending to be my first attempt. The kit I purchased included the reservoir, hose, and so...
This modular bookshelf is a great project for beginning woodworkers and you veteran woodworkers as well. Requiring only 2 boards to build and a limited amount of tools, this project can be made in a day or a weekend. the design can be modified by building more cubes or changing the orientation of the unit itself. Add some color and it makes a great display and shelving unit for a kids room. Give it a try.
