I am very sorry that the tutorial is still down. I lost all the pictures and just have moved on to other things. The Stumpy Nubs Workshop #1: FINALLY- The first episode is done! You're gonna LOVE IT!

989 days ago by StumpyNubs | 63 comments »

Maybe “LOVE” is a strong word. But I’m really excited about the final version of the show, and I think most people will feel the same way. Forget about everything we experimented with before. This is all new. It’s been over a year in development, and And I’d like to think it is a pretty unique format! Here’s how it works… The show is designed to have the feel of a single camera “reality” type show. It is meant to be a glimpse into our workshop as if you were just stopping in...

The top-secret project..... #7: The Race To The Finish Line

889 days ago by MSlumberjocks | 51 comments »

So now that KTMM has his band saw at his shop, and I (William) am left alone with mine, all that is left is for each of us to finish up the details.I must admit, if you’eve kept up with the blog, that I am ahead of him already. So it really isn’t a fair comparison. Still the same though, I though I’d start a new blog entry for the seperate finishing. I’ll post mine here, and I hope KTMM will do the same. I mentioned yesterday, way down at the bottom of the last entr...

Around the Shop #1: Walker Turner 16"Bandsaw. The things that dreams are made of.

711 days ago by Don W | 46 comments »

A few week ends ago I went to a tool auction. I went home with a few items, but the one of real consequence was the Walker Turner 16” Bandsaw. As best as I can tell, this was made sometime between 1938 and 1948. Its got a 22-639 serial number, which it seems Walker Turner put on a lot of stuff around that time. Some information seems to indicate its closer to 1948. Its a BN1135 16” Wood, built 1939 to 1948 (Discontinued 1948): serial 22-639Mine will take a blade between 113”...

1782 days ago by poroskywood | 40 comments »

Hey everybody, after a few personal messages here is my version of a how to on a Drunken Checker Board. I of coarse bow to the Chairman of the Board and pay tribute with beer. This is a Off-Checker pattern I call “Drunken Alice in Wonderland” The “serendipitous” nature of this piece is appealing in a far out sort of way. Here Goes… So first I prepare the Material. I am using Hard Maple and Walnut both are surfaced flat and cut 1” x 9” x 14&...

How to find and harvest legal burls!

1748 days ago by OregonBurls | 37 comments »

Hey everyone, It was suggested that I start a discussion on how to find and harvest burls. Please give your input also. I don’t deal with straight grain that often. I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know. It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....
