Designing the Thien Baffle in Sketchup

27 days ago by Sk1pp3r | 0 comments »

I am just posting my journey for my upgrades to the Harbor Freight Dust collector I got. I have been using it stock except for the wynn filter cartridge and have been happy with it so far, however I have been getting some leaks and will smell the wood dust coming from the collector after cutting items. So I figured if I am going to seal the leaks, I better just build a whole new cart and add a Thien Separator. The first post here is detailing the Thien Separator. I went over to his we...

Super Duper Sled #1: The Sketchup Plans

1449 days ago by AttainableApex | 11 comments »

Well here is my latest sled design. This sled is a combination of many sleds that i have seen in the past. One sled that really influenced it, is the super sled by john nixon at eagle lake woodworking. I like the t track on the sled part (the sheet part) but i am going to use real t track. I also liked the t track on top of the fence, which i incorporated, but it stops there. This sled should be able to do just about everything. You can cut 45’s ( blade tilting at 45 deg ) and every o...

Simplicity Wooden Clock #1: The Plan

1644 days ago by CaptainSkully | 5 comments »

Since I can’t afford a bunch of quarter sawn white oak to finish the dining table right now, I thought I’d look for a project that requires less materials. Having just read “Longitude” by Dava Sobel, I’ve been fascinated by wooden clocks. Being a Mechanical Engineer, I also have an affinity for anything with gears. I found woodgears.ca few years ago and have been fascinated by the stuff he makes. I’ve also looked into building some kind of kinetic sculp...

Router Table #2: Dado Time!

2501 days ago by Jon3 | 5 comments »

I grabbed a Dewalt Dado set off Amazon for a song a while back, thanks to the wonderful deal hound at Woodnet. So I loaded that up, got a good fit, and began to run down some Dados Then I began to glue & brad the chassis together. I set that aside so that the glue could dry, and moved on to the drawers. I broke down the ply, and laid them all out. Before I assembled, I did a big tape-up, tossed on some cheap sacrificial borg ply on the bottom, and drilled the...

Router Table #1: New Yankee Style Router Table

2501 days ago by Jon3 | 2 comments »

NOTE All of my photos have been migrated to a new provider, and the links in my posts are likely out of date. You can find the photos here. So, I’ve needed a router table, and I wanted an nice big surface area. I’ve used some of the lighter weight ones before and didnt’ care for them. The only product I used that I liked was the Bench Dog with the CI top, and the whole system, including a nice beefy 3HP router would have set me back around $1500. I couldn’t se...
