After several e-mails requesting the plans for the Dan Walters cutting board I copied I decided to put some information together to get people started.
The first thing to decide is what size of board you want as this will dictate the stock you need. Or the stock you have will dictate what size cutting board you can make.

Welcome.Where do I start, at the beginning I suppose, I was born at an …..sorry not that far back!Ok let do this. [ I will be using imperial measurements throughout this blog..mainly ‘cause all wood working should be in imperial not metric! IMHO anyway]

This project is not technically finished so I will not post as a project..This part of the blog will deal with the cutting of arcs.I basically used one of the patron jigs I developed to cut the end curves for a Baguette Board…this pivots on the circle cutting jig. Cut two lengths of contrasting or complimentary timbers… I of course chose Purple Heart and Silver Ash…Silver Ash and Tasmanian Blackwood would have also been suitable… But if all you have is Walnut and Curl...

I’m in the process of building a new workbench based on Bob Lang's bench as detailed in the October 2008 issue of Popular Woodworking. I’ve read Christopher Schwarz book “Workbenches: From Design And Theory To Construction And Use” as well as several others. It always seemed like I wanted a combination of the features I found in most other benches. Bob Langs design was the first I’d seen that incorporated everything I wanted in a bench, so here goes!

I have spent the last few days in the workshop working out how to make this jig.. and have it durable and repeatable and totally accurate and easy to use.Actually this jig can be used for two different projects … well probably more that two but thats all I have used it for so far.To start, I had to build a table to go over the bandsaw table for the jig to pivot on. Next step is to make the ends of the segments curved. Shell-like if you want.For that we need a new jig.. Just a sneak peak of a new drunken weave board I am designing,, still in the prototype stages at this time but will continue with it until I am happy with it ..this is only a dry fit to see if the cuts are OK and what adjustments need to be made...
