Thorsen Table Challenge #7: Going for the Top !! Also pegging joints info.

948 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 33 comments »

The last couple of days, I’ve been working on the tabletop. I mortised out the breadboards, & cut the tenons. I kind of fell for the cloud lift theme, so I incorporated into the top. You might want to call this a sideways cloud lift. I decided to try something from the latest issue of Fine Woodworking, They call it draw bored pegging on the breadboards. This is something I’ve never tried before, so we’ll see what happens. Check out my latest Video, hope you ...

How to find and harvest legal burls!

46 days ago by OregonBurls | 32 comments »

Hey everyone, It was suggested that I start a discussion on how to find and harvest burls. Please give your input also. I don’t deal with straight grain that often. I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know. It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....

Conference table / work bench #1: Wenge and White Ash Table

817 days ago by Lee A. Jesberger | 32 comments »

It’s been a while since I posted any projects, so I figured I’d better do so before you all forget my name. I previously posted a Library stair unit, and this table is the accompaning piece of furniture to that. The client needed a conference table, but he also wanted a workbench, as he was prone to dismantel his computer occasionaly, in name of improving it. He was a fan a George Nakashima, so he wanted the table fashioned in his style. My design seemed to ...

This project is not technically finished so I will not post as a project..This part of the blog will deal with the cutting of arcs.I basically used one of the patron jigs I developed to cut the end curves for a Baguette Board…this pivots on the circle cutting jig. Cut two lengths of contrasting or complimentary timbers… I of course chose Purple Heart and Silver Ash…Silver Ash and Tasmanian Blackwood would have also been suitable… But if all you have is Walnut and Curl...

Entry Table Specs

746 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 27 comments »

Friends With Benefits… OK guys it’s not what you think. But the benefit here are specs for the entry table that I made. One of the LJ brothers asked if he could build the entry table as a gift and I thought I would share it with everyone. I am keeping his identity secret lest I give him away to someone that he would be intending to surprise. In The Rough… These are not professionally drawn plans, but they will do. This is a simple project and all the specs are t...

Demilune table tops #1: Making Demilune Tables

864 days ago by Lee A. Jesberger | 27 comments »

As you may have guessed, I make many of these tables. The practice is needed, and the combinations of woods make it very interesting. These were all made from the plexiglass templates shown. By using these templates, I can make these tops very quickly. I also have other shapes that are more complicated, which I’ll post at another time. Lee
