“Look at every path closely and deliberately, then ask ourselves this crucial question: Does this path have a heart? If it does, then the path is good. If it doesn’t then it is of no use to us.” Carlos Castaneda…Peruvian-born American anthropologist and author…(1925-1998) (This banding pattern will be referred to as Banding #2 for the sake of convenience.) Banding #2 with Checkers can easily be understood and made in the shop if we take a few minute...
Welcome back and again sorry for taking so long to get this post out. After my hand healed I was really backed up on some other projects. I’m almost caught up and will post some of those projects on my page in the next couple of days. When we left off we had all the sanding done and are ready for staining and finishing. I’m making two of these frogs, one that will need staining and one out of exotic wood so everyone can participate in this project. We will go over staining next. I’m...
The 60 degree band saw sled as seen in the woodworking video is made from scrap. It took 15 minutes to build from scrap material. As you can see, it is used when cutting small wood pieces for wood inlay banding & parquetry. What kind of band saw blade is being used? ...Wood Slicer – 1/2”, skip tooth, 3-4 TPI. It provides an excellent cut. Can a 60 degree sled be used on the table saw? ...Yes, of course. In fact, my shop is equipped with one as well. Why do you use ...
Here is my cherry refreshment table which will feature a single drawer and breadboard ends.-----I started by making breadboard mortises at the router table. The mortises are 1-1/4” deep and cut in multiple shallow passes. -----I used a 1/4” spiral bit to center a 3/8” groove in the breadboard ends. I made an initial pass in the standard right to left direction. Then I flipped the board end for end and made a pass from left to right to avoid a climb cut.-----I set up my t...
I was checking out some picture frames that spunwood has on the site and ask to see some profiles. My request was granted so now it’s my turn. I went out to the shop and took these pictures. Hope that this helps those of us that don’t have molding cutters see another way to do it. This one is weathered cedar and a piece of redwood cut with a cove bit on the routertable and a piece of longleaf pine with a rabbet cut making the inside of the frame. Here I used ipe with sedona ...

There is something special about wood turning. It is easy to spend hours at this wood craft while working with the various woodturning tools. This particular project features salt and pepper mills of black walnut with a food-safe finish of Tried and True oil varnish. This finish leaves a soft and warm patina with a nice hand rubbed look and feel. The material on hand in the shop happened to be 3/4” black walnut that was left over from another project. In this case the (4) pieces w...

I wanted to design an arts and crafts dining table that included arched rails and twin keyed tenons. I like several of the Stickley tables, but wanted something original. I like the feel of Keven Rodel’s Talesien desk, which served as inspiration for this table. The stack of parts is growing… Initial frame assembly… And the tabletop glueup…
