This is in response to a viewer, Helluvawreck who had questions concerning what turning tools were used during the video of the Salt and Pepper Mills.
Thoughts:1. Turning salt and pepper mills is essentially spindle turning.2. Due to the length of your wood lathe you may need to bore out on your larger lathe, the drill press, or carefully by hand. There is something special about wood turning. It is easy to spend hours at this wood craft while working with the various woodturning tools. This particular project features salt and pepper mills of black walnut with a food-safe finish of Tried and True oil varnish. This finish leaves a soft and warm patina with a nice hand rubbed look and feel.

I know this is a little out of order but I needed to get started on these desks ahead of the garbage can containers. What is great about these desks is that we will be using different kinds of joinery. We’ll be laminating the legs, pocket hole joinery for the aprons and top. Today the sawdust was flyin!Spent time today cutting/ fitting/ assembly of the box seat frame and finishing the box itself.
Once the pieces for the fame were cut I started with the corner posts of the seat frame.these were mitered and biscuit together.
Then spent some time marking out the arch design I was looking for with the bottom rails. you will see that I set up my Scribe to mark out

We are working on a entry bench and mirror set for a homeowner. There is a small space in the entry of the condo by the base of the stairs that will accommodate a sitting bench and decorative mirror.
The mirror unit will be made up of poplar and will have a dark finish. An existing mirror from the powder room has been fabricated and will be framed. a shelf and crown trim will be at the base and crown and a shelf will finish out the top.

Once the banding segments are organized we can now focus on creating the interior design. We’ll need a few outer rippings that will sandwich the segments together and keep them in alignment. You’ll notice in the picture that the outer hardwoods are walnut and maple glued together. In this case the walnut will be on the inside with the maple on the outside. Has there ever been a time when you saw a wood banding design inlaid into a table, jewelry box, or picture frame and you asked yourself the question “How did they create the banding?” I did too.
