Wood Magazine and American Craftsman Workshop

146 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 60 comments »

The latest issue of Wood Magazine (Issue 192-Sept 2009) is just hitting the mailboxes and will soon be at the bookstores and magazine racks. On the cover is Norm Abram, but on page three, listed in the index is a mention for my joint testing video! They also printed an image captured from the video. I am honored and excited about being chosen for a mention in Wood Magazine. I plan on doing more videos in the future, but they take a lot of work and I have my own business to run so ple...

THE DAY THE THE MYSTERY PACKAGE ARRIVIED

89 days ago by a1Jim | 58 comments »

An exciting day today. My wife went to the post office and found a package addressed to Heirloom woodshop, (one of my business). I hadn’t ordered anything lately other than a book and this package was not the appropriate size and was way to heavy. My wife and I looked at it and wondered what it could be. After a long time of feeling it’s weight and trying to determine what it might be, we were suspicious of its’ contents because of years gone by when packages show up and a...

Advice on Patents #1: Okay, it's not woodworking, but it's for woodworker's too.

472 days ago by Lee A. Jesberger | 54 comments »

Hi all; As woodworkers, I would say we are a pretty creative group. I doubt any us us have not had an idea to improve something, or develop a new tool, or idea to make an existing tool better. This creativity is a necessary ingredient to inventing anything, and is a characteristic of our hobby. Add to that the mother of all inventions, necessity, and with us being tinkerer’s, we’re almost forced to invent something. A lot of us have made our invention, for our own use whenev...

117 days ago by degoose | 43 comments »

Well another day… not much done… still recuperating…cleaned up the small spot of blood on the saw.. lol I did however do some things that were slightly constructive..My good friend Col came over with some of his creations..boxes and boards [cutting type] that needed to be passed through my 16/32 drum sander, sure makes light work of flattening and smoothing a cutting board .. especially endgrain.. and safer too.,Another friend and LJer Ken rang looking for a small amount ...

Another day, another nickle #13: It's Been an Interesting Journey

280 days ago by Thos. Angle | 42 comments »

We’ve been away for a couple weeks. One to go to Wyoming and interview for a couple jobs and one because the danged computer took a dump. That was expensive and I’m still re-loading programs trying to get to my taxes. The real news is; we are selling out here in Jordan Valley and moving to Wyoming. Owyhee Design is no more. It died for want of interest from the buying public. On Sunday, two fellows will be by to look at my machinery with the intent of buying it. If they don&#...

How I spent my summers in my teens!

491 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 37 comments »

Since I bought my first computer about 4 years ago, I’ve digitized all of my pictures. I had all of my slides put on disks, & made a jig, so I could take pictures of all of my old negatives. It took me quite awhile. Now I’d like to show some pictures of my Grandparents farm where I used to spend my summers. As soon as school was let out, I’d jump on a Greyhound bus for a 200 mile trip to Northwestern Minnesota. It was during World War II, in the early 1940...

How often do you clean your shop?

125 days ago by Kjuly | 36 comments »

Why should you take away from your precious woodworking time to clean the shop? The obvious answer is safety. Woodworking is much safer without a lot of clutter and piles of saw dust everywhere. There is another reason and in some ways it’s just as important as having a clean, safe place to work. A few years ago, I was working in a cabinet shop building store fixtures for a large retailer. Three months had passed since I had been promoted to Journeyman Cabinetmaker. Times were good, w...
