07-26-2012 08:41 PM by WoodJediNTraining | 8 comments »

All in all it was a great event with a lot of great entries. I would like to thank all those who participated in the 1st Annual Whirligig Wars Contest. Greene and Greene Curio Cabinet #4: Carcase glue up

05-14-2012 03:16 AM by DynaBlue | 3 comments »

I have been busy working on the cabinet, trying to make the most of the two weeks I took off work to get done as much as I could accomplish. The carcase has now been glued up, a process that consisted of several stages in order to simplify assembly. The stages I used were: (1) Cloud lifts; (2) Drilling shelf holes; (3) Carcase sides; (4) Door divider into front stretchers; (5) Web frame; (6) Final carcase glueup. Since I hand cut all the tenons there were inevitable small gaps wher...

There's always something overlooked.

04-02-2012 10:27 AM by JoeyG | 9 comments »

Hello everyone. I did not complete the bookcases yesterday as I had hoped. I neglected to make a piece of cove that makes up the third part of the crown. These built ins are going in a room that have ceiling beams and I had to cut and chop and take down, and basically just make it work. I had several plans on how I was going to make it work but in the end, I just did it. I came home last night and milled out a few pieces of cove and now I am putting the last couple of coats of clear ...

I USED THIS TO BUILD 'TOY CRANE'

03-31-2012 06:19 AM by Metrotek | 7 comments »

This is the machine I used to build, ‘Toy Crane’; they’re phenomenal machines. I cut circles and everything else on it. It was the first time I ever used one; in fact ever saw one. That veneer is hard to work without machines made for maching it that have small advance scoring saws; it tears right off of the core. It’s best to score it with a utility knife and use masking tape to prevent tear out.The patterns were covered with a perimeter of elastomer and an ejector created a partia...

Carpenter Cut - Optimal cutlist diagram for iPad/iPhone

11-23-2011 04:03 PM by SmartCutter | 7 comments »

After my previous post here, I got numerous feedback and great ideas from professionals on this site on how to optimize the cutlist diagram to make it useful for professional wood workers. This lead me to develop “Carpenter Cut” app for iPad/iPhone devices. It goes like this: Start with a sheet of plywood (e.g. 48×96), tell it the dimensions and quantity of each part you want to cut from it. Specify the kerf (size for your saw blade (0.125 is the default)), and indicate gr...
