Initial Woodworking Awards Categories

11-22-2006 09:57 PM by Martin Sojka | 3 comments »

As you know I’m working on the new format of the LumberJocks Woodworking Awards. Today my great friend Eric Martin prepared new set of Award logos for me and they are perfect. I’m not going to disclose them till the announcement of the Winter Awards. So stay tuned and I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised. Thanks Eric ;) I’ve been thinking hard about the initial Awards categories. I don’t want to start with too many categories, just two or three and expand...

Bosch Contractor's Saw review posted

11-22-2006 07:05 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 1 comment »

I just finished up writing my thoughts on my latest tool purchase, the Bosch contractor’s saw. I posted the review in the Tool Forum section. I never thought I would be saying that I liked a Contractor’s style saw, but I did, so I decided to tell the others about it, thinking it might help them make a decision on a table saw. I have been surprised to see how widespread the lumberjocks exposure is getting, and so I realize that this review will be located by many others than...

creche #2: Stealth woodworking

11-22-2006 04:12 AM by scottb | 3 comments »

Delivered the creche this weekend, nearly complete. The woodworking aspects took longer than I expected, but not so bad that I was losing money on my time. The non-woodworking aspects however were another story. I cut two kerfs on the insides of both legs, pre-glueup, to slide in a piece of plexiglass (the cutomers request), to protect the statues. Didn’t have one at the bottom or top (planned on using hidden screws at the top) to help hold it in place. I was to also put a piece ...

WHAT'S UP? "While I'm out in my Shop". #6: Revamping my Dust Collector ductwork

11-19-2006 09:33 PM by Dick, & Barb Cain | 7 comments »

I just put this into this series to tie things together, but it’s not in the proper order, so bare with me.. Hi,Today, 6/21/2007, I changed the name on this blog, so members could find it easier. Things sure get haphazard, & messed up when you by a new piece of equipment, especially when you’re cramped for space. I bought a new planer about a year ago, & I’ve been in a tangle ever since. The first thing I had to do was rearrange all my power tools. After tha...

Rustic Ramblings

11-18-2006 09:55 PM by dennis mitchell | 3 comments »

I was wasting time in a local bookstore a few years back and came across a book called “Rustic Artistry For The Home” by Ralph Kylloe. I picked it up and Wow! That was the quality and artistry I wanted to achieve. Today I’m getting closer but it has taken me away from traditional cabinetry. I’ve had people tell me rustic is easy because you don’t have to worry about straight and square…don’t listen to sales people! Rustic furniture offers all the ch...

Winter 2007 Awards in Works

11-18-2006 01:16 AM by Martin Sojka | 3 comments »

Hi jocks, I’ve been thinking about the concept of the contests at LJ in the recent days. I’d like to replace the contests with the “LumberJocks Awards” and have two awards in mind for the coming winter. Here are the logos in progress: The awards will use much improved voting process that should guarantee as objective results as possible. Basically, there will be no star rating system. Each voter will choose his top 5 entries (in order) and these entries will...

American Bungalow Magazine

11-16-2006 06:15 AM by Mark A. DeCou | 5 comments »

Hey jocks:If you are in a bookstore and are flipping through magazines, check out the new “American Bungalow” magazine, Winter 2006 issue, my advertisement is on page 62. I ran this ad earlier in the year for the Summer 2006 edition. One old timer said awhile back that if I was really any good I wouldn’t have to advertise, the work would just find me. He followed up that zinger by saying that he has never advertised. Those hurt pretty bad, and whenever I hear criticism...
