Woodworking Purgatory...

01-24-2007 09:38 PM by Ethan Sincox | 4 comments »

A few years ago, before we were married, Dana and I went to Ohio to visit her family. They all live close to Akron, which is most of a 10 hour drive, so we’ve always flown up there, and this time was no exception. As much as I’m a conservative, Dana’s mom is a liberal, so we try to avoid those kinds of topics. But one thing we all enjoy is going to estate sales, so more often than not, we’ll hit one or two every trip. On this particular trip, we happened by a sign that said a small fa...

Will Power

01-24-2007 03:47 PM by MsDebbieP | 8 comments »

As I sit here taking the time to type a few words my dishes sitting waiting for me to start the morning routine. Routine house duties are usually completed long before now but distractions have led me astray and I have followed. My little lanyard project sits here by my computer, a reminder of my first attempt at wood carving. As I sat looking at it this morning I mulled over the suggestion to put the rope markings in it and Rick’s input this morning seconded this feedback. So that w...

"Gulping at Great Gulps of WoodShop Wilderness" --by RusticWoodArt

01-24-2007 03:12 PM by frank | 2 comments »

”Gulping at Great Gulps of WoodShop Wilderness” ....well yesterday was one of those days when I decicded to take the advice of another one of those Sages of Past…. ”Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” —by: Albert Einstein Ah yes, so refreshing it is to hear these thoughts, that upon entering my shop yesterday, I just knew that I had had enough of this working box barn space. So not quit...

01-24-2007 12:59 PM by Martin Sojka | 6 comments »

I’d like to remind you all that our Winter 2007 LumberJocks Woodworking Awards entry deadline is just one week away. So far we have 26 entries in Best Creativity and 23 ones in Best Craftsmanship. I’m sure that our unique LumberJocks Awards deserve more entries – especially considering the number of projects posted here – so hurry up and submit your projects if you haven’t done so yet. And one surprise – I’ve decided to raise the prize from $150...

Lets update the Workshop pages for all LumberJocks

01-24-2007 04:42 AM by Karson | 26 comments »

It looks to me that the only way you get a little arrow on the map, is if you make a workshop profile. It used the address or town that you put on your profile. It would help find LumberJocks that might live close to you. We only have 25 arrows on the map for all of the USA and Canada, and I know we have more LumberJocks than that.

"Standards of Principle" ---by RusticWoodArt

01-23-2007 02:33 PM by frank | 2 comments »

”Standards of Principle” ....standards are the barbells that we work out with daily, in the gyms of our minds and if you decide to not practice your standards of barbells daily, then you likewise will become the fat around your heart and of no profit to yourself, except for those of likemindedness such as yourself who will welcome you into their den of slumber where you will all talk about the days gone by and how it used to be, before you gave up your right to be called ‘...

Strawbale Construction

01-23-2007 02:23 AM by dennis mitchell | 21 comments »

Thought I’d show off my main project. The forms for the foundation are 2×12’s that I built the roof out of. The logs I cut up in the mountains and split with a chainsaw. The cross timbers are from a local mill. I used a hybred truss rafter system so I could built them in place and not have to rent a crain. The exposed ends are rounded and routed. What I didn’t know was 2X12 come from 11 1/4 to 11 3/4 wide!! Dimentional lumber my a#$%#@$%!! This is some thing I fo...

Man! is this place getting busy, or what ?

01-22-2007 05:36 PM by Dick, & Barb Cain | 17 comments »

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m having a hard time keeping up. Especially with my one fingered ”Hunt, & Peck” typing. I see we hit 400 projects this morning, isn’t that something ? I might have to hire a secretary, so I can keep up around here. That’s about all I have to say today. Besides, I have to save on my finger.

Why I love this place -or- The Pendulum Swings -or- From the Sublime to the Rediculous

01-22-2007 01:55 AM by Don | 14 comments »

Last night I went to bed after reading some wonderfu, somewhat esoteric, yet inner-spirit revealing blogs. “Stool-O-Marriage: A Rustic Impression of the Marriage Covenant”, “How’s Your Underside Looking”, Seeing the Timelessness of Gustav’s Vision”, and “A Gift Cane for my Carving Father” to name just a very few. And the responses that these kinds of blogs elicit are equally inspiring. They cause my spirit to soar and inspire new ideas that stim...
