Finishing....

02-27-2007 11:01 PM by Philip Edwards | 9 comments »

Hi FolksMy day job continues to be silly busy at the moment – what a difference to the start of the month. One extreme to the other :)Good news is that I have glued up the main part of the fluted table. Was slightly stressy, as glue-ups seem to be. All went well although I do have a couple of seams that didn’t close completely with glue added that DID when dry assembled. Grrr…... Still, a little sawdust and oil soon sorted that out. And talking of oil, I’ve now put on ...

'This Old Crack House' #5: Mz D the lunch lady

02-27-2007 09:03 PM by Dusty | 12 comments »

We were warned by the seller when we bought our first house, across the street from this old crack house, “Don’t pay any attention to the lady next door. She’s sloppy and doesn’t always keep her yard mowed or cleaned up. She’s not very friendly”. I though, oh good, what did we get into now? “How long have you known her and how long has she had lived there?” I asked. “Sixty plus years!” he responded. He went on to informed me that hers was the second house built on the block and that...

"Live Free Or Die" --by RusticWoodArt

”Live Free Or Die” ....well here’s the down and fit, best by far only to print, good news, that i’ve read this morning….the wood is all up to curing and since the weathers changing for the warmer and more day hours of sunlight, i know that it will not be long till the smell of spring is here to stay and that means ‘white water’....white water canoeing on rivers of icey melts of snow, even as these are soon to be shedding their winter glacier melts...

LumberJocks Birthday: ONE year old

02-27-2007 01:55 PM by Martin Sojka | 9 comments »

Our LumberJocks site turned one yesterday! Dick has posted Happy Anniversary entry yesterday and that reminded me of this special day. I originally didn’t want to post separate blog entry about this but I changed my mind after waking up today. This special day deserves it because it proves that my last year wish has definitely come true. So it’s time to blow out the candle and celebrate with nice chart summary of the 1st LJ year: My thanks goes to everybody inv...

When do you say "no" to your jointer?

02-27-2007 11:34 AM by oscorner | 9 comments »

With a forecast of fowl weather this weekend, I didn’t plan to begin any new projects this weekend. I decided to get back to work on turning my air dried lumber into usable lumber, so I changed out the drum sander on my WoodMaster and put the planer head back on. This meant that I needed to remove my bandsaw on the SuperShop and replace it with my 6” jointer. Well, I spent many hours jointing and planing lumber into usable pieces. Of course, with rivened wood the wood is split...

Running for the Light: What to do with “Pop’s” Tools?

02-26-2007 07:55 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 8 comments »

I was reading Ethan’s blog this morning, and it pricked something in my heart that has been there for a few years now, but more recently surfaced for me. I understand the emotions and concerns that Ethan has for his good friend, and I am glad he is there to help “Bob” with it. I had been wondering what I had to say that had some meaning this week, since I see that Ethan has driven right on past me since I alerted him to the competition of posts a couple of weeks ago. Then, as I was thinkin...

Day 1

02-26-2007 05:53 AM by DaveC | 9 comments »

Alright here is my first attempt at a blog. I will be building a wooden bow I will include pictures and step by step details as I go along. Before I start I have to give credit where credit is due. Most of this info I learned from Dean Torges’s video “Hunting the bamboo-backed bow” I also learned a lot from the good folks at the “Leatherwall” traditional archery forum. http://www.bowyersedge.com/books.htmlhttp://leatherwall.bowsite.com/TF/lw/THREADSx2.CFM I highly recommend both ...

Life On Hold

02-26-2007 05:30 AM by dennis mitchell | 7 comments »

My bathroom vanity is on the back burner. I’ve been hoping to get the sink installed so I could do the last blog on it and get it put into projects. Instead I’ve been back to real work. I’ve spent a whole week out doing kitchen installs. It is worst than it sounds I agreed to do a kitchen. When I was an apprentice with a muralist he gave a piece of advice. “Be very careful of what you do because you will end up doing it.” So I will start building kitchens again. ...

Thankful...

02-26-2007 04:50 AM by Ethan Sincox | 6 comments »

I’m feeling very thankful and grateful today. I just found out that a friend of mine, Bob, the guy who helped me turn my osage orange mallet, had a series of small strokes recently. His sight and mental capacity has been severely affected to the point where he can no longer drive or operate any kind of machinery. He says it is like there is a big black hole in his head. He has a thought and before it gets to his mouth to say what he wanted to say or to his hands to move the way he...
