'This Old Crack House' #6: I’m the one wearing the stupid-shirt

03-01-2007 04:03 AM by Dusty | 8 comments »

We agreed he would start promptly at 7AM. After all, he is a professional carpenter and only does this on the side so he can buy more toys. That’s what he told me, if you remember. Its 7:45 AM. I am sure he’s stuck in traffic, I keep telling myself, even though its early Saturday morning and there is no traffic. 8:15AM. Third cup of coffee; I notice the hand jitters. I convince myself it’s just the excitement of beginning the new construction project. I also decide that he ...

I'm back again

02-28-2007 08:33 PM by jockmike2 | 8 comments »

Back, now thats a play on words. I had to stay off my tailbone for another week, according to the Dr. Well after breaking it twice in 4 years it’s getting pretty sore. One more fall and maybe I can tallk them into removing it. Only thing when I sat down I’d be like jello. Guess what I recieved in the mail from Uncle Martin, a beautiful Lumberjock T shirt. Best present I ever got. I’m proud of that and give Martin a lot of credit for sending it, as much as a pain in the rump...

"Expressions of Art-Full Truth" --by RusticWoodArt

02-28-2007 01:28 PM by frank | 2 comments »

”Expressions of Art-Full Truth” —-the artist will by will of their own nature and rite of character, be an expression of the art that he//she so creates. Do you think that you can separate yourself from the playing field of the gods where you have sought play? This would be like saying that I can work at my art on an eight to five work day and then I shall go home and be regular joe//jill. And so while thinking you are safe from interruption, the telephone of divine in...

Carving envy

02-28-2007 03:18 AM by Dan Lyke | 9 comments »

I’m pretty gifted. I probably say that with some conceit, because I’m pretty conceited too, but I still have reason to believe it’s true. I’m good at a lot of things, and I’ve had any number of personality issues because I approach the world at a high enough level that people have trouble keeping up with me. One of the things that reading LumberJocks is doing is teaching me humility. And it’s doing this in two ways. To me, there are two types of artis...

Finding an identity...

02-28-2007 01:37 AM by Dan Lyke | 4 comments »

I’ve been “blogging” for 9 years. I put “blogging” in quotes, because when I started doing it we didn’t know what to call it, at the time Yahoo was in ascendency and we thought “microportals” was the term that would stick. It’d be a while before Jorn Barger called it a “web log” and Peter Merholz would short that to “we blog”, thus to “blog”. And I’ve had a presence on the web in one form or ano...

Finishing....

02-27-2007 11:01 PM by Philip Edwards | 9 comments »

Hi FolksMy day job continues to be silly busy at the moment – what a difference to the start of the month. One extreme to the other :)Good news is that I have glued up the main part of the fluted table. Was slightly stressy, as glue-ups seem to be. All went well although I do have a couple of seams that didn’t close completely with glue added that DID when dry assembled. Grrr…... Still, a little sawdust and oil soon sorted that out. And talking of oil, I’ve now put on ...

'This Old Crack House' #5: Mz D the lunch lady

02-27-2007 09:03 PM by Dusty | 12 comments »

We were warned by the seller when we bought our first house, across the street from this old crack house, “Don’t pay any attention to the lady next door. She’s sloppy and doesn’t always keep her yard mowed or cleaned up. She’s not very friendly”. I though, oh good, what did we get into now? “How long have you known her and how long has she had lived there?” I asked. “Sixty plus years!” he responded. He went on to informed me that hers was the second house built on the block and that...

"Live Free Or Die" --by RusticWoodArt

”Live Free Or Die” ....well here’s the down and fit, best by far only to print, good news, that i’ve read this morning….the wood is all up to curing and since the weathers changing for the warmer and more day hours of sunlight, i know that it will not be long till the smell of spring is here to stay and that means ‘white water’....white water canoeing on rivers of icey melts of snow, even as these are soon to be shedding their winter glacier melts...

LumberJocks Birthday: ONE year old

02-27-2007 01:55 PM by Martin Sojka | 9 comments »

Our LumberJocks site turned one yesterday! Dick has posted Happy Anniversary entry yesterday and that reminded me of this special day. I originally didn’t want to post separate blog entry about this but I changed my mind after waking up today. This special day deserves it because it proves that my last year wish has definitely come true. So it’s time to blow out the candle and celebrate with nice chart summary of the 1st LJ year: My thanks goes to everybody inv...
