"Gone Waundering" --by RusticWoodArt

Gone Waundering ....gone waundering! gone waundering and so i go, out in the outback’s of my mind, far from the shore’s of hominal demesne…. —-gone waundering where the paths of other’s have not trod, while the winds of government’s blow past my head, i catch the currents of ancient’s past, and watch as these gladly welcome me back…. —-gone waundering with a golden field of dreams, when to my awakened surprise i saw the reality, h...

Outdoor "Coffee" Table #6: Mortises

1756 days ago by Dorje | 6 comments »

I spent a few hours today mortising the stiles (of the frame top) for the table. Lots of mortises to do. I drilled the ends of all the mortises first, since it takes turning off the mortiser after every cut to carefully line up the chisel with the score marks at the ends. Then, I could leave the mortiser running and clear out the rest: One down, one to go: There we have it: Next up are the legs – mortises and tapers. I marked them the way shown below, but recalled seeing a po...

I downsized the pieces a little, the king is a little over 3 inches tall. I’m starting to get excited about this project..more to come

Shop Cam Experiment - Lathe Cam

1756 days ago by mot | 13 comments »

Hey Folks, I’m just screwing around with technology. I’ve just spent a little time setting up the “Lathe Cam.” I’m not sure it will see any action tonight, but it was fun to setup! I'm going to try and setup a more permanent shop cam for a couple of reasons. I'm in the shop late at night while my wife is doing her paperwork. I've had a couple of accidents in the shop. Just minor, but I have come up the stairs bleeding with my hand wrapped in shop tow...

Woodworking Gadgets

1757 days ago by GaryK | 10 comments »

We have all seen new gadgets advertised. How many of them really work? How many are really worth the trouble? How many really get used? I invite everyone to tell us about your favorite gadget or two, and how much you really use them. I’ll start by showing two of my favorites. Both are shown in the picture below. 1. The first are the “Board Buddies”.http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=11262&filter=board%20buddies&cookietest=1 They work great t...

Artistic Woodturnings #2: "Jorell" Spalted Water Oak Hollow Form

1757 days ago by SteveRussell | 6 comments »

Here is another piece I did in Spalted Water Oak titled “Jorell.” I rarely turn Oak of any kind, but this log was too nice to pass up. Termites did a number on this log before I got to it, evidenced by the holes in the front of the form. This piece measures approximately 10” tall and 8” wide at the widest point. It was hollowed with a Stewart System Armbrace using traditional “Blind Hollowing” techniques (no laser guided, or torque arrested systems). The wa...

A Workbench's Progress #11: The End's in Sight!

1757 days ago by TheGravedigger | 9 comments »

Hooray! The final glue-up of all the pieces is finished, and boy am I tired! The last post left me sharpening my chisel and getting ready to square up the 28 mortises. This was indeed as difficult as I feared. It’s not that squaring a mortise is that hard, but there were so many of them. This was the time to remember the old adage that a mountain is climbed one step at a time. Each mortise was just one mortise, and that’s how I approached the problem. The problem with SYP...

Arts and Crafts Style Pool Table - Video Series #5: Corbels for the leg system

1757 days ago by John Nixon | 5 comments »

A couple of weeks ago I Blogged for help here at LumberJocks (Link Here) with what size / shape /scale to make the corbels for the Pool Table. It was a great discussion and also a nice collaborative process with all who participated. There’s a great group of woodworkers from all skill levels here, and it was nice to hear to various viewpoints. The corbels are finished, and I think they came out great. The next installment in the video series covers the design and construction of t...
