Holier than thou, or the meek shall inherit the wood? #2: Days 2 and 3.

241 days ago by Bill Butler | 5 comments »

My shoptime allowance is spotty at best, however a couple of solid days in the last few weeks has allowed me the time to finish milling up all of the wood for my bookcase. Up until recently I hadn’t really had a design in mind for the first prototype of the bookcase to rise from the wood of the old church pew. It is now starting to take shape. It will have 4 shelves, 2 fixed and 2 adjustable. The shelves and the risers are milled to 11/16”. The planned finished dimensions of th...

"Who Lights the Fire that Burns from Yonder Tree?"

Who Lights the Fire that Burns from Yonder Tree? ....shifting shadows in this my woodworking world, are but the lines that write themselves over the grey in-filling that passes it’s time within the scope of my head, as i imagine what there would be without the mornings sun to move me along this slope of granite grey, till i am dissolved amongst the many other apex’s of radial turning with all due respect to time within the box…. —-time within that box of massive...

"Woodlands of Grace" --by RusticWoodArt

569 days ago by frank | 2 comments »

Woodlands of Grace ....wood is a many faced facet, that supplies the support of my need to create, wherein once i was a user of this cellular structure, i have now understood that the joke is on me…. —-since those early days of yonder childhood dreams, then came the playing games of child in me, where out in woods of silent solitude, i gasped for breath in oaken quest…. —-who is this one that walks my way, tis but the spirits of evergreens that bear me up, and...

Series blog #2 getting started.

594 days ago by jockmike2 | 6 comments »

Well, I dug out all my walnut, well not all, but the amount Karson suggested. After jointing and planning and cutting it all up I found my 2 inch walnut I was going to use for legs ended up at an 1 1/2 inches so I’m making a wood run today out to my wood buddys place today to see if he’s got a 2 1/2 or 3 inch thick board. I’m sure he does he’s got about everything. I do have some oak spindle legs I made a year ago I could use and stain dark, but I want this all walnut....

The Day the Music Died #1: The Carnage

265 days ago by kshipp | 2 comments »

This is a piano bench from my church that has clearly seen better days. I’m going to try to put it back together and also make it stronger than it was before because I can see it has already been repaired once. I started with pulling apart as much would come. Some of that you can see in the first picture and here it is the rest of the way. I need a little advice on this. First, I think the bottom piece is just supposed to float and not be glued in. It was glued in in...

Shop, Tools and Jigs #1: Croaker's Shop

312 days ago by Croakermea | 2 comments »

My shop sits in the third bay of our garage. I spread out into the middle bay when I need more room. When snow is in the forecast, the John Deere tractor with a plow blade has to squeeze in also (it’s there now). The table saw was a Christmas present and required some reorganization to make it fit, not to mention running the 220 power. The table saw, and the three cabinets visible in the pictures are all on wheels so that I can set things up quickly. My main work surface is the rolli...
