Dear all: This is the first time I was in a blog so I am new at this. I am currently making 10 custom entry doors for a residence. These are made of swamp recovered cypress 4000 years old with matching screen doors. I had to match an existing profile so we ground custom knives on the profile grinder then ran the stock on the shaper. The cope stiles were shaped on the large shaper with the sliding table. I am now sizing the glass (tempered) so I can call in the glass sizes well in advance so i...
Wood Scupper ....your eyes corrupted,my being as fire melts ice,i am soon turned out….—by flp ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————...
OK Jocks, I need your sage advice…I’m going through some SERIOUS withdrawals. I’ve been sick for the past 3 days, and so busy prior to that for about a week, that I haven’t been in my shop for at least 10 days. Prior to this dry spell I had started my assembly table, based loosely on the one Mark S built in his wood whisperer blog. I’ve got the entire table box cut out and ready for glue. Now it just sits waiting for my loving caressing to bring it to form....
Monday rolled around and I arrived a little before 8am. I wanted to take a look at the “disaster” and find out what I missed. My friend was already there, leaning against her truck, smoking a cigarette. I got out of my truck, grab my bag from behind the seat and smiled as I walked up the driveway. My friend was looking at me like she could kill me. Uh-oh. “Good morning, sunshine” I cheerily said, “Who pee’d in your Post Toasties this morning?”...
Well, over the weekend, I was only able to do limited work on my boxes. You see, I discovered the reason for my “clamping issues” on my lever-action boxes… My miter saw is out of adjustment! My 45’ angles were NOT 45’! So I took a 2×4, jointed it then planed it, then spent the next hour chopping the h311 out of it, adjusting the blade after every chop, until it was giving me perfectly accurate 45’ angles. I also adjusted it for 90’ angles. ...
I recently got “Hand-Cut Dovetails” with Rob Cosman and started practicing. This is the first attempt which is now a baby toy (no lead).Lessons learned. The stock is 1/4” thick. I think thicker material (3/4”) would be easier.
”Gifted Imaginations” ....imagination is the fruit of seeing beyond the point of where other’s stop and wait, the place we all come to when reality calls out and warns us, that to proceed on in the face of what we have been told, will most assuredly lead us to fall off the face of the earth…. —-”i say to you and have you not heard that the world is flat”, to go on this way is only a fools drunken walk, and what of the other’s that will fol...
Love the feel and fit of the organic cotton. Now if I can just find my digital camera… Thank goodness I don’t keep it in the workshop! I’d NEVER find it then. But, funny enough, I’m having a hard enough time trying to find it here in the house. eh… I’m sure it will turn up. When it does, I’ll post a new pic.
To take some boards you have no need forl, and just see what happens. My wife and I are moving, and I had an 8’ solid pine shelf that I used for tool storage ect above my pegboard in our old basement suite. With the move I had no need for it, so now i had just an 8 foot pine 1×10. For more of the story, you need, more of the story. I’m currently building a nice oak entertainment center, but in the mean time I still have my ugly black vaneered MDF one, and an old Ikea 3 d...
