Great work guys on all the projects you turned out. Just amazing work. Gary you deserved first place. Wonderful projects. That birdcage looked pretty tedious. Also Mr. Stewart your chair is a piece of art. Made for the little people no doubt. All the projects showed ceativety and excellence. Kudos to all. I’m in awe of many of the projects. So much talent in one place. What a gallery. I was surprised that some projects did’nt get many votes, and others got so many, thats what made...

287 days ago by Greg Salata | 4 comments »

After the woodwork was finished on the doors, we decide we should remove the carpet after all. I know the old hardwood floors below are not salvageable. Walls and built ins have been moved or removed. So now it is time for hardwood floor.

Learning more every day!

309 days ago by itsme_timd | 10 comments »

Well, I’ve completed a few projects now and have some in the works as well. I’ve got 150 others that I’d like to make – we’ll see which ones I actually make it to. The list continues to grow. I’ve asked a lot of questions on here about methods and tools and I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) that you definitely get what you pay for in power tools. It really amazes me that the quality can be so poor on some tools. I’d understand them be...

My Adventure in Home Remodeling...the Wrong Way, Part Four

320 days ago by tat2grl | 1 comment »

She left me holding the pole and staring at the window. There was NO WAY I was going to stand on TOP of the ladder to paint, much less crawl inside a space that was NOT designed for someone to be in and paint from there. I shook my head, walked out to my truck for a smoke and thought about it. I even called Laurie to make sure I wasn’t being stupid. She agreed with me. See, I have a bad leg. A knee surgery that went horribly wrong. Lost use of the leg for the better part of 10 ye...

Here’s wishing everyone at Lumberjocks a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. This picture of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree was taken by a collegue of mine from the window of an office a few doors down from mine at WNBC. Our offices are on the 7th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza and overlook the plaza, skating rink and channel gardens. The Swarovski Star has been used to top the tree for several years now. It is 9 feet in diameter and weighs 550 pounds. This yea...

Patio Table #1: Getting Started

425 days ago by shaun | 1 comment »

This project started out as a conversation with a co-worker who was shopping for patio furniture. They found a web site with a set that they really liked but were having a hard time comming to terms with the $2,800 (plus shipping) price tag. I was a little curious to see what a $3K patio set looked like so we logged on to the web site. I was expecting to see a huge set with seating for 8, reclining chairs, lots of accessories included, awnings, and maybe a built in TV. What I saw was a 4 ft ...

"Handwork in Progress" --by RusticWoodArt

Handwork in Progress:—-’at making a …..’ ....and so this one here is a work in ‘the process’ which should be done today or tomorrow, depending on what and where my kayak decides to go today! Not getting much time in the shop at the moment, as the powers that be….those gods of the water are taking my time and once in the grip of their clutches, kayak and I are one. Summers in NH can be short and so I use and plan, along with being spontaneous for...

WOODWORKING SHOWS #2: #2

567 days ago by ShawnH | 6 comments »

Back to the Jim Heavy classes. He was fantastic and his main objective was to give us more confidence to try new things and harder projects. He gave a great speech about not discounting your work as soon as you give it to someone. As fellow woodworkers, you know what I mean “Well, that didn’t turn out just like I wanted it to, there is a problem on this part here…” Just give the item and say thank you when they say they like it. You are better than you think, look back...

"Broadaxe or Yariganna" --by RusticWoodArt

653 days ago by frank | 8 comments »

”Broadax or Yariganna” Well here I go again writing about my approach to woodworking in the non-traditional sense. I sit back sometimes and wonder where has woodworking gone, as the art of working in wood with non-motorized hand tools is now being more and more replaced with the use of power tools. The role of the woodworker today is becoming less, as one who works with wood and more of one who works with machines. We now must understand power tools and then we need power ma...
