Well, here I am…......... First off, I am a procastinator. Man do I have good intentions, then things just kinda go south from there. I posted a couple of pics of my tools (that I had on the computer already, and not ones i took to add here) and havent gotten further than that. But I WILL get some posted soon. I am very much a beginner when it comes to woodworking. I find myself with a great deal of desire to make things, but have little talent, so I learn as I make mistakes. But then...
I’ve read of discoveries in the firewood stack in the backyard. I look among pallets and crates behind area businesses. ( I ask for permission before I take any closer look than a drive-by.) If you’re inclined in this direction, where have you discovered wood to reclaim?
Legs of Beauty ....and so the progress goes on, in the continuing saga of this one, who is coming forth from the heart of the tree, and doing as befits her ‘being’ of becoming set free…. —-having legs of beauty as formed from within, she soon was noticed as having likened wood skin, till from the shapely posture of her bijou stance, i knew their was more here then meets first glance…. —-what i saw in her legs was sweetness of desire, and from this ...
Well this is the second time I’ve wrote this I tried to slip in a picture and ended up losing my whole blog. Oh well, what else have I got to do, it ain’t the first time. To the blog: I’ve spent the better part of two days trying to track down all the parts to my blower/vac I’m talking 200 mph of sucking and blowing power ow, ow, ow, ow, more power (tim the tool man). I needed it because I’ve got about 6-8 inches of saw dust and chips from all the planing and j...
I would rather clean then do all that maintenance that comes with woodworking. I have been cleaning and trying to find places for all the “stuff”. I still have this list..Drain the compressor and change its oil. Get the O-ring for my staple gun. Fix the cord or switch on the belt sander. I tried to get my planer and joiner blades sharpened. When I went to change the planer I pulled a set of very dull blades out. So those needed sharpened before I could switch. I also got a bunch o...
As I sit here taking the time to type a few words my dishes sitting waiting for me to start the morning routine. Routine house duties are usually completed long before now but distractions have led me astray and I have followed. My little lanyard project sits here by my computer, a reminder of my first attempt at wood carving. As I sat looking at it this morning I mulled over the suggestion to put the rope markings in it and Rick’s input this morning seconded this feedback. So that w...
I retired a few years back. The most frequent question asked of me is some version of, “What do you do with your free time?” When I answer that I’ve taken up woodworking, non-woodworkers respond with a blank stare. They can’t imagine what I’m talking about. This week I was reminded of this, when viewing a DVD from Taunton’s Fine Woodworking about Tage Frid. Tage has been a woodworker for over fifty years. He still worked in his own shop turning out beautifully creative pieces. I was so imp...

Oily Rag Safety Tip Most people know that spontaneous combustion can occur when oily rags are left in a bunch or thrown together in a trash can. A friend of mine didn’t realize this and had a small fire in his basement shop. Based on this, I thought it would be a good idea to pass along a tip that is easy to use and can prevent this from occurring to others. I use oil for finishing and use a simple device that takes away the worry of spontaneous combustion. I drape my rags and bru...
