I love College Football in general, and specifically the CU Buffaloes. So, I used Folsom Field as inspiration. I also used Layout, which comes with SketchUp Pro, and used the style feature to add a more hand drawn look in certain views.

Hi All,
I just found, what seems to me to be a treasure trove of cherry. I just stopped today at a warehouse type resale store and found that they carry all kinds of wood. Mostly redoak but alot of cherry and some maple. Anyway I just wanted to throw this question out there to see if anyone could shed some light on it. One of the piles of cherry they have is probably about 100-150 BF of 4/4 stock. Each board is approx 8’ x 4”. They are selling it for $4.00 a board. The c...

Well, as some of you know, I have been working on a rocking horse for my grandson’s first birthday. I finally finished it, I will post a picture of it in my projects. I must say, it was quite the challenge. I had a very frustrating day trying to router the pieces to a template, I finally gave up and just cut them on the band saw and sanded them to size. At one point I actually thought, I am not going to be able to do this. And me and my big mouth, I had already told my daughter wh...

This past weekend was a big event for the Roswell family, as we celebrated my Mom’s 80th birthday. Plans began early in the year and resulted in a family dinner on Friday night, with my younger brother surprising Mom by flying in from Arizona (after a lot of lies about why he couldn’t make it) and with my son and granddaughter flying in from BC (it didn’t even cross Mom’s mind that he would make the trip). We also had a bonfire breakfast Saturday morning (for the past ...

MotivationWife: Just get out there and start working on it.
Good advice actually. I was dead tired after some yard work, but I went into the shop Sunday afternoon on Kristin’s advice.
Board SelectionI made some changes to the cutlist to reflect a few new measurements. Also I did not have enough wide boards and wanted to avoid having to slice up any more beams.
Revised cut list
So I culled through my pile of old fir and pulled out some prime specimens.
I finished up Sunday...

Well, here we go. It’s going to be a large square box, approximately 14×14 (measuring the edge of the lid). The lid will lift off, not hinge. The “handle” will actually be a finger-hole centered through the lid, lined with a wenge sleeve and collar that I will turn on the lathe to fit the hole. Wenge feet.
The case will be filled with 6 stacked wenge trays lined with black suede and plenty of small compartments. I plan to add a couple of ring bars to one or two ...

Old Growth and the Ancient Ones
....’old growth’ that I have found!
While out Sunday afternoon in the forest here, we (my wife and I) set out to discover some new territory in the surrounding habitat of the woods and I happened to come upon some pines that were growing on an eastern slope of a hill. At the bottom of a ravine I first spotted an old pine that had escaped the logging crews of yesteryear. At first I thought this one was the only one out there, but after looking ...

Hi Guys,
It’s 9-17-07 and I’m running a 5” by 24” piece of wood through my jointer. Instead of it cutting at an even thickness. It is coming out on a slope. About ½ inch in it is .66 thick and I stopped immediately. At about 1” in it is .73, at 12 inches it is .83 and at the other end it is .92 inches thick. At the beginning I’m putting most of the pressure on with my left hand. As soon as the paddle in my left hand is past the blades and there is room for the...

I should know better… yet I’m sitting here anyway, browsing through a gazillion web pages – mostly google image serches, trying to find the “right” model for my Sketchup table. Trolling through virtual albums of places I’ve visited and lived. Places that resonate with me. I’ve hit my (real) photo albums so many times for countless projects (College and post) that I’ve got them all but memorized – and bled dry.
I should just give it a re...
