With apologies to Monty Python! I finally got my LJ T-shirt. I’ll be wearing it this 4th amongst crowds of 1,000’s and anyone that asks about it will get one of the LJ flyers for the summer project. Of course my wife says I look scary so I might not get many asking.

Blueberry Picking.

507 days ago by Karson | 11 comments »

We went picking blueberries yesterday. It was a nice sunny day. The humidity was less than it had been all week. It was just a great day for being outdoors. My daughter came for a visit from New Jersey and she brought the twins. After about 30-45 minutes we had a couple of buckets filled with Blueberries. We would have had more but – - - My daughter checked his mouth once and he had about 10 of them in there at one time. He was not putting them in one at a time but a fist ful...

Toxic Walnut!

507 days ago by Steffen | 9 comments »

A week or so ago I read someone’s blog about their dog and an allergic reaction he had to chewing on a chunk of walnut. Well…unfortunately for my Buddy the same thing happened to him. I was turning a bowl late Friday night and Buddy kept trying to get me to play ball with him. He kept rolling it onto my feet (where all the shavings were) and I would kick it out onto the drive. Buddy always chews the ball while he’s bringing it back to you and every time he’d put it...

"Wood Tales From Beyth ha-`Emeq" --by RusticWoodArt #3: "Wood's Vale at King's Dale" --RusticWoodArt

507 days ago by frank | 3 comments »

Wood’s Vale at King’s Dale ....it was at the sound of shifting patterns of un-solicitated wind, passing through these gorges of my adorned soul, that i first caught an encounter with your infinite being of oneness entwined, where the osculation of your passion and zest remembered me as all-ready whole…. —-i was the one who you found striving in mind and body, and the places of my existence were workplaces of self-expression, while all the routines of my daily exe...

Hand Tools #2: The stud...

507 days ago by woodspar | 14 comments »

Something sawdust2 said about a stud stuck in my mind…I couldn’t quite figure out what he meant, then I looked back at my pictures and I realized that he thought the two 1x’s together had been a 2x. Here is the picture: So tonight I thought, Could I do it? Why not? First step is to cut the length down to a manageable size: Not bad for a rookie, eh? Ok, now for the rip. First I mark the center with my combination. Marked and ready. ...

Changing Table

507 days ago by Tim | 3 comments »

Well with the crib finished I need to start on the dresser/changing table. I went to Yukon Lumber yesterday and ordered $300 of wood. Kind of expensive but it will be worth it. I am using some plans I got out of Wood Magazine but I am going to modify them to match the crib better. There is a backer board behind the crib that is supposed to be arched, instead of that I’m going to square it off and add some Lace wood inlays. I think it will make a nice matched set that I will be able...

A Workbench's Progress #8: Glue-up's Finished

508 days ago by TheGravedigger | 7 comments »

The easy part’s over—all of the base components have been glued up, trued up, and evened up. After gluing the pieces together to make the rough leg components, I squared up the surfaces with a hand plane, and then sent everything back through the thickness planer to insure uniform thickness. Then, it was time to cut everything to final length. I hate this part—it’s one of my favorite ways to mess up. While the legs were a-gluing, I skip-planed the stock for th...

Quarter Size Cherry Quilt Chests #8: Almost Done!

508 days ago by David | 19 comments »

It has been a busy few days here in Sisters, Oregon. The weather has been wonderful – warm and dry with temperatures in the 70-80’s. Since we arrived, I have finished the tops for my two cherry quilt chests. I just completed installing the hardware. Tomorrow morning we will deliver them to the Clearwater Gallery. Delivery day will be my last posting on this series, except of course, hopefully, an update when they sell! Getting ready to install the hardware. I like to install everything ...

Morris inspired chair #10: I'm ready for my close up Mr Deville.

508 days ago by Bob Babcock | 22 comments »

I’ve got a smile from ear to ear. We finally took a ride and picked out the cushions and material for the chair today. Suzanne should get started Monday or Tuesday. I may have a finished chair by next weekend. I’ve tested out some different combinations for the cushions and decided on 5” of high density foam with 2” of a softer foam on top for the seat, The back will be 5” of soft foam. Each will be wrapped in batting to soften the edge. I’m looking ...
