Ok, why is it so difficult for me to remember my camera when I’m working on this thing? Last night I was taking the clamp (large rubber band clamp) and tape (blue painter’s tape) off of my box, and I realized I hadn’t been taking ANY pictures as I originally planned on doing.
The problem is that I’ll just get a free hour or two to work on it, so I’m more concerned with actually getting an hour’s worth of work done and less concerned with trying to remem...

Yesterday, I was outside enjoying the “perfect” weather and taking some pictures of flowers,
when I sat down on a log by the woodpile to see what I could see….
I saw several images in the ends of the wood, including this one:
and then I added a flower from one of the plants nearby:
and finally sauntered off to find some other inspirations, including my new rock sculpture I put together:

Slab Wood Tales
....in the working of the wood, the stories of those who came before me, are revealed as enlightened nuggets of wisdom, where ‘ancient ones’ give thanks by offering to tell me their tales….
So today I thought I would travel some ground….or is that lay some ground work here and post some pictures. I’m going to throw in a plug here and say thanks to Zooomr for all their work that they have done, and have made available to all. Using this site ...

I’m a firm beliver in supporting other LumberJocks when I can and I’ve been in the hunt for a good miter plane for a while. I was impressed with Phil's wooden miter planes and decided to order one. It actually arrived a couple of weeks ago, but with my work schedule I really have not had time to try it out.
It is a wonderful plane. Well made. Phil made the blade as well as the plane. It was well tuned when it arrived. I basically set it on the bench, put the blade in,...

Well I got myself out in the shop lined up the fence for the miter saw and leveled it to the bench. I also drilled and ran the vacuum hoses to the saw, at first I wasn’t sure what to use to connect the hose to the saw but 1 1/2 PVC pipe works fine with a couple of wraps of duct tape to snug it up
I placed a small vacuum that I use to use to clean out cabinets after I installed them under my bench, it is small enough that it really don’t take to much room and is a powerful l...

The curved legs were one of the things on the list of “gotta haves” for this table. I’m still limited to the 4/4 lumber and I don’t own a band saw. So I milled up 8 pieces to 3/4” and glued them up to make four 1 1/2” blanks. I used my jig saw to rough them out then sat down with the sander and a couple cups of coffee.
Cut some pieces for a frame to brace the legs and a quick dry fit.
And the legs assembled.
Details of the frame sup...

This is a knife I made almost 60 years ago. _Bob, reminded me of this in his metal working blog. I told Bob I’d get a picture of it, But the knife now lives with my oldest Son down in AR. He kindly sent me some pictures.
Our high school offered an General metals course, in 10th grade. The first 1/3 of the year we learned how to weld, both Gas, & Electric arc. The next 1/3 we did blacksmithing, & forging. The last 1/3 we did pattern making, & casting aluminum.
This knif...

Hi,I’ve been playing around with my new” iMac. This will send you to my forum topic, Buying a new computer.
I found out that there’s more work involved, when you replace a computer. When I got my first PC, I was starting from scratch, but this time transferring files, plus trying to learn some new things on this system is quite a chore.
My Son was helping me the other day so he got in the show.
It’s kind of strange having such a large screen, but it sure nice...

So where have I been, right here in Laingsburg, MI. doing no thing. Had a yard sale, or my wife and family did a couple weekends ago, now that is something I have never been a part of, nor do I usually visit them because as most of you old timers know, after seeing shots of my shop, I have all the yard sale items a man desires. However being a good sport, and considering I had 3 scrollsaws, 4 lathes, 2 garage door openers, 3 bandsaws, 2 tablesaws, and countless other junk, I decided to make my...

Well, its been a while since I started this blog and added the last installment. Its been a crazy summer, started a new job spent a lot of time away from the shop, but I did get the bench finished. The top took a lot of time to level out. I actually borrowed a power hand planner from a buddy to do most of the work. If anyone has access to one of these tools, I highly recommend them, I’ve used it on a few other projects too. Anyway, I got the top leveled and drilled all my dog holes,...
