new Jet jointer

668 days ago by Rob McCune | 14 comments »

Okay I went to Ideal Saw Works on Saturday and picked up the new jointer. It’s a Jet JJ-6CSDX with the 56” long bed and quick setting knife head. I have to say, that cast iron bed is heavy. It was something like 165 lbs and I could barely pick it up! It took me about an hour to set it up. Most every one who has reviewed a Jet jointer has said theirs was ready to go out of the box, but I had a couple little issues. One of the blades must have shifted after it was set, because...

Woodworking shows, anyone?

668 days ago by oscorner | 16 comments »

I’d rather spend my time in the shop, but there are days or nights when I could benefit from watching a good woodworking show or read a woodworking magazine. In fact, with the great decline in useful or entertaining programming on the tube, programs like, “This Old House, Hometime, etc. are the few left that make watching the tube worth while. The problem is that even these programs are getting scarce. What is going on? Even “DYI” is switching more to gardening tha...

"Rustic" by RusticWoodArt #1: "Getting Out of a Rut and Into Rustic"

668 days ago by frank | 3 comments »

”Getting Out of a Rut and Into Rustic” ....and so i traveled the way of going the path of my heart, where many had stopped to stutter at having no art, these were the more then many who walked the walled isles of you-know-mart, having given up their life of soul for the is-stilled creature comforts of designer defined dead art…. Going rustic was an answer to the prayer of my heart, where I never need have no-more second thought to any who would come and say, why don...

Birthday #2: Update

668 days ago by MsDebbieP | 5 comments »

This has been one of my best birthdays ever!! First of all it was as if it was 3 days long!! And I have received some great gifts and lots of well-wishes from family and friends! (Thank you LumberJock-ers for all your kind thoughts). Then last night we had family night and did a “video chat” with my son and his family. We had chinese food and played monopoly. That is so much fun. It’s just like they are sitting right here in our dining room. Anyway, this morning I discovere...

Quarter Size Cherry Quilt Chests #1: Starting with 4/4 cherry

668 days ago by David | 9 comments »

Thought I would share a bit of my day. My wife and kids are out of town for a short retreat and I had two days off work. Great combination for a woodworker! As I mentioned before, I have a very small garage based shop. I share the space with my family and have to set it up for each project. No complaints as I am always happy to be working with my hands! I am very grateful to all the members of Lumberjocks – what a great community! I learn so much from all of you. It is hard to keep u...

Kitchens #1: Nose to the grind stone.

668 days ago by dennis mitchell | 7 comments »

I’ve been out pumping out some cabinetry. I was trained in a custom shop so the kitchens I’ve built tended to be mid to high end work. When I first opened my shop I got a large cabinet job about $40,000.00 without counter tops for a 3000 sq. ft home. Did some pretty fancy stuff. Then shifted to install work and have done that for the last 7 years. So I never really set out to do an inexpensive kitchen. The fellow I’m installing for now wants me to try to build a semi-custom ...

'This Old Crack House' #17: Do you have a flash light?

668 days ago by Dusty | 8 comments »

I had no idea where to begin. I was still in a state of disbelief. I was trying not to judge, but I admit it was hard. The overwhelming question in my mind was how anyone could live like this. I also wondered how it could get this bad. I decided that answers to these questions weren’t going to help me right now with the problem at hand. The sink was plugged. It was hard to only focus on this. The overwhelming conditions surrounding me made this next to impossible to do. I simply had...

Day 6

668 days ago by DaveC | 3 comments »

Well I finished the bow today. I put on 4 coats of wipe on polyurethane (over the last few days of course) Then wrapped the handle. I was going to do a leather wrap handle (and I still might later) but I had some “leather like” material made for wrapping around tennis racket handles. I used that instead. It works really well. This particular piece of wood has some light colored “speckling” in it. I think it adds character. I need to practice my penman ship. : )...

This is my hand in the air to ask a question.

I was looking at doing some blogging. Do I have to post my photos to an online site to be able to install them into the blog? Or can I pull them out of my iphoto application on my mac?
