General Posts - non woodworking #1: You are special

Something my sister emailed to me, and I thought it was worth passing on to my friends!. Sometimes we just need to be reminded! A well-known speaker started off his seminar by: holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, “Who would like this $20 bill?” Hands started going up. He said, “I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this. He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, “Who stil...

"The Wild of the Woods" --by RusticWoodArt

501 days ago by frank | 9 comments »

The Wild of the Woods ….and so i walk the footsteps of those who precede my thinking, these are the spirit’s of rustic woodlands as found herein, and it is they who speak in an un-known tongue from the forest of living, a language that not many today have the time to learn away from the clatter…. —-clatter comes in many shapes and forms, but the duty of clatter is all-ways the same, and that is to distract one from the beauty of silence, needless to say that clat...

So you want to sell online.... #1: Getting Started

501 days ago by cajunpen | 28 comments »

A few people have expressed an interest in finding out more about selling some of their woodworking projects on-line. We all dream of making it big on the Internet – but I’m afraid that those days of people getting rich quick have long ago passed. Having said that, the Internet is a good way to market your product or yourself. Please don’t be mislead – selling on the Internet is not as easy as posting your product and waiting for the sales to roll in. It takes a ...

Changing Table/Dresser #1: SketchUp Design

501 days ago by chambbj | 5 comments »

My first project. My first post. With a lot of inspiration from my father-in-law, I’ve recently gotten very interested in woodworking. I don’t really have room for a shop or many tools of my own, but after finding a community workshop not far from my house, I thought the time might be right to finally give this a shot. I think one of my great motivations in woodworking is the chance to make functional furniture for my family. Though I’m worried it may be a little am...

Where’s my Camera Cord?I lost my camera cord about a week ago so I haven’t been able to post photos recently. So some catch up with pics… (Borrowed my sister’s cord). Kitchen…. The kitchen is stained and painted now… I stained the cabinets and trim then finished with dewaxed shellac and thre...

LumberJock Picnic at Mark DeCou's home

501 days ago by Karson | 8 comments »

Well I’ve finally got everything together to report on the LumberJock Picnic held at Mark DeCou’s home on August 10th, 2007. It all started with a comment to Mark that said when I visit Kansas City to see relatives that I might stop by his home. The invite appeared in the return e-mail. It then was a while before the trip was planned. Then Martin put out the announcement that the Official LumberJock Picnic Day was July 15, 2007. MsDebbieP posted a picnic that she held on that day. I ...

Standup Paddleboard Paddles #5: Time for the water.

501 days ago by Bob Babcock | 9 comments »

We should be paddling these next weekend at Lime Rock . My brother is going to be racing over the weekend in his Peyote MKII in the Rolex Vintage Festival. It should be a great time. Here are the finished paddles….actually I still need to varnish them but they shouldn’t change much. The one on the right is the 2nd one. Much lighter than the 1st and likely to be the one my brother chooses. Blade fronts…I really like #2…I hope it performs well with the rolled edge....

Hockey Stick Bedside Table #4: Final Product

502 days ago by melski | 3 comments »

Nothing left but to install the drawer and get a piece of glass for the top. When I made the top I allowed 1/4” recess with the trim around the edge for a glass top. That will make it smooth to set things on it while allowing you to see through for a view of the sticks. Ready to use and enjoy! Next….

Hockey Stick Bedside Table #3: Drawer

502 days ago by melski | 3 comments »

Built a drawer to fit the opening in the table. Nothing fancy, just some plywood left over from some other project. Since I was using hockey sticks for the front, I made it shorter by their thickness so when the drawer is closed it fits flush with the table opening. I added a handle to allow easy opening and a rotational hockey stick piece in the back to prevent the drawer from falling out if pulled all the way. Just rotate the stick to install and it rotates vertical for interfearance on...

"Cultures of Sculptures" by RusticWoodArt

502 days ago by frank | 6 comments »

Cultures of Sculptures ….this are the images of my heart, wherein lies the nourishment for my soul, taken across the canvas of landscaped forests of green, and so the green is a living color that breathes of what i am…. —-have you entertained the thought of venting as a leaf, on the back of an un-de-fined-un-re-fined wind, accepting for the moment of moving time your delay of free will, and so you ride the backside of this storm furore bearing gifts…. —-...
