I just realized as I was starting to look for some bed hardware on Rockler.com that some of you might not be aware of Rockler having a Professional division.
There is a seperate catalog and a different web site. Maybe Martin can setup a link to the Pro site and still get his fees.
Rockler siteRockler Professional
On the bed hardware that I was looking at there is a $4.50 price reduction on a $13.99 item.
I don’t remember how I became aware of the prosite, nor do I remember h...

”Art-Full Imagination”
....and so just as my hands where finding a place of rest, from the duties of my gouging tool, my mind opened up and swallowed a look of forlorn desire, as my eyes laid hold upon this thing i had hoped to call art….
—-and what is art unless one has sat in the dung heap of job, where with saintly satisfaction gone the way of passing nodes of ashes gone knotty grey, i have once again become the sounding gong of wood songs greatest orchestral ...

I’ve been a little busy at at my technology job like WayneC but I was lucky enough to get over to the shop both Saturday and Sunday. I got the TS retuned, sucked all the excess dust out and waxed the table. She’s ready to make some new dust. After that, I set up my new Jet 16” bandsaw and the mobile base. I bought a Kreg fence but didn’t have time to get it installed since I have to drill an extra hole in the rail to fit the table (it’s geared toward the 14”...

This weekend provided to be very busy. I aimed my goals towards finishing the router table top, and with rain in the forecast, it would be a good weekend to tackle this project. However, things needed to be completed first. I needed to tear down many boxes in the shop which were becoming obstacles to productivity, and then take them to the recycling center. With a baby on the way, my wife is in her nesting stage and needed shelves hung, but I was out of wall anchors. And ever important, I nee...

I’m sitting in a hotel room this evening on a week long business trip to Houston. I’ve been looking around on the web quite a bit and see lots of information on this topic available. Matt is doing a good job of covering planes in his podcast, etc.
I’m thinking of just showing the finished results of the restoration of the different bench planes in the project section and moving on to other topics. Any thoughts or feedback?
Anyway, have a good week, have fun and be pro...

How many out there are interested in what happens to the tree prior to the wood turning up at your local hardwood retailer???
Such as:
- techniques/videos for cutting down a tree (watching a 300 year old white oak tree that stands about 100 ft with a 6 ft diameter trunk fall is a pretty amazing experience)
- Selecting a piece of lumber out of a freshly dropped tree (think Nakashima)
- Milling the wood and definition of the cuts (quartersawn, halfsawn, etc.)
- Drying the lumber ...

... the “table” has sat on my workbench for over a week now, untouched.
“Why”, you ask? Well, it’s my legs. That’s it. One little thing. Well, four, actually—four little things.. Well, the “little” isn’t accurate either. If it /they were “little” I wouldn’t be stuck. It’s the tallness factor that has put a roadblock in my way. I don’t have any appropriate wood that is over 12” in length. That wo...

What to write about??
I went out of town this weekend (trip to Richmond, VA) so not much went on as far as wood working. I did try to convince my mother that the sofa table I promised her I would build should be in the Arts and Crafts style, so I could enter it into the contest here (is a sofa table able to be entered or does it have to be an end table?). She is supposed to get back to me so I may end up trying to build too tables at the same time, a simple one for her and a more complex...

So this past weekend I was actually able to get into the shop for a bit and do something fun! I recently picked up a Stanley #60 1/2 Low Angle Block Plane and I wanted to get it tuned up for some work.
This block plane is going to be a great user plane, but it really isn’t much in the way of being “collectible”. It has the blue japanning, which I was a little hesitant about when making the purchase because I know most Stanley planes went through a quality decline wh...
