No Pictures; No Purchases

446 days ago by MsDebbieP | 6 comments »

Yesterday, my sister-in-law went on our first “Off-road” trip (that’s short for “go to a small town that is located off the beaten path)... Amongst our many stops was a visit to an antique store. As I checked out all of the amazing things I kept my eye open for woodworking tools so I could share in the ongoing “look what I found” discussions. What did I see? Planes – old, old planes, some not-so-old planes. How do I know the age? Ah.. well.. the...

What I did on my summer vacation

446 days ago by SteveC | 3 comments »

New here and thought I’d try things out with a few pics of my current project. Back in 2003 I built a 28’ x 40’ workshop in my yard…Recently I needed to move and rather than start over I moved the building too. Here is an attempt at a few shots in sequence of the moving and the new location once landed. Hope that worked as planned? This happened first week or 3 of August. Since then I started a bigger p...

What a gas!!

446 days ago by Betsy | 11 comments »

Decided to take some of your advice and buy a jig to hold my plane blades to sharpen them. WOW. Got the Veritas honing guide. Used it and within about 10 minutes (7 or 8 of which was reading the instructions) I had a very sharp cutter. I was able to use my block plane on end grain with no problem and face grain like butter. For giggles I took the rounded edge of my board and made it flat! Took no time at all. And while it’s an early success I can see more shavings in my future. A sha...

Well, I suppose your right, I do seem to be hooked. I’m old and slow ,but steady. It will be easy to follow my progress, my better half says the turtles line up to watch the race when I i focus on the finish line and “plod” steady toward it. I’ going to figure out if i can post pictures here and let you see how slow and unhandy I really am…...THE GOOD NEWS IS….I HAVE FUN. My commitment “More to come from this old guy” HHHHHHHmmm, I only see...

Entertainment Center #1: getting started!

446 days ago by Fireball | 2 comments »

Although I haven’t completed many big projects before, I got the hair-brained idea to construct a large built in entertainment center in our media room. I am hoping to get the carcasses and face frames built fairly quickly, then take some time to build a large drawer at the bottom and doors at the top. The whole unit will be 10’ wide by 8’ high. Below is a photo of the area before the project started. I really need to learn how to use Sketchup, but for now my...

$500 Donated and Issue With The Donor Badges

446 days ago by Martin Sojka | 21 comments »

Well, let me say THANK YOU! I didn’t expect this kind of response to my donations request (or rather I should say my notice about the new donations feature). Here I’m staring at my PayPal account – yes, you have donated $500 together. Unbelievable… once again thanks for your support, it means a lot to me. Now we must think of how to spend this fund wisely ;) I’d like to buy some advertising space on other sites (newsletters) to promote our Save the Children ev...

Router Table #6: Fence Time!

447 days ago by Jon3 | 2 comments »

Now that I have a working router table, I started in on fence making. Not much time available last night, so this is a short entry. Clamped on my temporary fence. Loaded up the straight bit, then the slot cutter, and ran the backsides of the adjustable fence blocks through Voila. Adjustable fence blocks ready to rock. Laid out the base and fence back… Loaded the circle cutter up, and began working on the round cutout for the bit area and DC port. ...

Ms Debbie P's 2007 Shop Tour and Inspection #15: Wednesday Workshop: Bob2's shop.

447 days ago by Douglas Bordner | 20 comments »

Bob2 has described his current shop digs as “A collection of tools at or near electrical outlets.” The space is in his business warehouse until he is able to pour concrete for a dedicated home shop. I feel instantly at home in this environment as there is a lot packed into a small space, and it’s none too organized. No sense burning brain cells on prettifying and organizing when the thrust to learn and create is where the true fire exists. As long as you know what pil...
