It's Woodworking I guess.

I went out to lunch today and this was beside me in the parking lot. I thought that since this is a woodworking site. I should post these woodworking pictures. Enough said.

Thorsen Side Table #4: Finally, Glue Up. Making the pegs.

463 days ago by fred | 5 comments »

I finally finished the design work for the table aprons. Nothing quite spectacular but my own touch and interpretation has been added. No pics yet since my daughter has not returned from England with my camera. She should be back Sunday night. So pics will have to wait until next week. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. It is starting to look like a table. Saturday I glued up the table ends and stretchers. Sunday I glued up the back and front with the small shelf between the...

LJTV #1: Shop Tour

464 days ago by scottb | 22 comments »

Our buddy Darryl says he has the Woodworking Dungeon – perhaps now he’ll agree that I really do… with spiders and miles of cobwebs barely overhead for a nice festive touch. One upshot to this contest was forcing myself to clean up the space a bit (Ignore all the dust and spiderwebs. I do). I also found 3 six-in-one screwdrivers that were slated to have their handles replaced with new new wooden ones… That puts versions 4-6 on the to do list, without spening any $$...

Weekend upgrade

464 days ago by scottb | 10 comments »

Did a bit of unplanned shopping today. Had to pick up a book for some hints on redoing a set of stairs this week. New oak treads, risers, double rails with 24 spindles on each side and open (that’s right open) beneath! No kneewall, or partial boxing in to allow myself to run the spindles down to a diagonal piece… just drywall to box in the existing supports…. but I digress. So while I was searching for that book…. I’ve been hankering for a new drill, rather an...

Favorite Old Tool(s) #3: More Stuff

464 days ago by Paul | 3 comments »

1. A pair of neat bar clamps I found some time ago. I had not seen clamps like this before and haven’t since. Neat and unique cam action clamping. They work great! 2. Two slicks marked with my grandfather’s intitials – HG – my father married later in life and I never met my father’s father. It’s special to me to be the caretakers of these and other tools marked with his initials. 3. I used to have a collection of these rubber “unbreakabl...

Jigs and Fixtures #1: 8" Drill Press Platform Fixture

464 days ago by Jeff | 18 comments »

I made this fixture as part of the puttering around I did in the shop this weekend. It wish I had already had it built the other day when I made my shelf pin jig since it would have sped up that process considerably. Building the fixture was the thing that did go smoothly this weekend. My work on the closet shelf/cabinet could have gone more smoothly (I messed up pretty badly with the flush trim bit since I didn’t really have enough surface to support the router’s base). Alas, I d...

Handplane Restoration #16: New Candidates

464 days ago by WayneC | 10 comments »

Today is Mothers day. To cellibrate, the family and I went to the monthly antique sale. and I thought I would document the day’s find. This antique sale is fairly large and makes for a good family outing. There is a little something for everyone. I did miss one item that made me wish I had been there a little earlier. It was a large, highly figured and very beautiful lignum vitae mallet. Such is life. I was looking for router planes and also perhaps a scrub plane to add to the s...

To Domino or not to Domino

464 days ago by Bill | 28 comments »

Ok, so I am sitting here weighing the costs of some tools. On the one hand, the Festool Domino set with dominos, guides, and a dust collector for approximately $1300. On the other hand, I need a table saw and a planer. The money for the domino would likely cover these items. Which way do I go? The Domino would allow me to do mortise and tennon joints much more easily than now. It would have the greater flexibility of positions, large sizes, etc. compared to the mortise machine. But ...

Getting sidetracked with little time

464 days ago by jockmike2 | 10 comments »

I suppose by now everyone knows I do not know how, or cannot for some reason, get the hang or understanding of embedding pictures in my blogs. Of course it does’nt help having a computer that is old 2002. This morning I checked and had 25% of usable space left on my hard drive, so I took off a bunch of old games, and crap I don’t use, although I still liked playing moaa games like pacific assault and all those saviing private ryan ripoffs. I did end up with 45% more space. I jist ...
