Okay, I couldn’t take it any more. I went out after that last entry and cleared the lathe off and started finishing some pens that I had prepared months ago. Boy, it was sure fun to just create sawdust. Here is how they turned out – http://lumberjocks.com/projects/3284.

does anyone have an event they would like to have added to the November eMag?
Due to technical problems, I am a little behind and submissions can be sent to me today or tomorrow. Just send me a message.

Okay here is my quick update on what has been happening lately. My spare time has been sparse in the last week but I am almost finished with building a workbench in my basement for doing my hand tool work. I’m using the Bob Key plan which seems to be a popular basis for many of the workbenches I have read about lately.
I’ll post more details and before, during, after shots when I have it completed. Just to tease you a bit, I am using the pine framing lumber do to money and availability ...

Waunderin’ Characters of Wood
....my time is the culmination of the work of a universe, where were it not for others of me singing verse, i might even think that i was the only teller of rhyme, but as so often happens to actors in fields of mime,
—-words fade and my hands give in to waunderin’ characters of wood….
So put your mind boots of imagination on and here we go once again, in the dusk of a fading sun, into the throes of cacoethes….

Our inspection this week is to a another garage-based shop in Great Britain. We visited YorkshireStewart, whose facilities are “just a half mile or so from the rapidly eroding boulder clay cliffs of the East Yorkshire coast.”
Here’s a map to identify the location of those of us that were daydreaming about shop class while we were in geography class.
In this shot it’s apparent that there is no small measure of wonder being manufactured there. This is a wooden ...

Well I started with the grid… this is a dry fit of the grid, it fits together really snug and lays perfectly flat. Its 2 1/2” thick which will provide more than enough strength I believe. I used MDF because I had it on hand and it won’t move. The two outside pieces have oak veneer on them…
At this stage I’m not sure what to do next, should I glue and screw it to the top using my table saw as the true flat surface in my shop? And what glue should I use on it? T...

Wow, I’m bushed. Everything is as cleaned up as it is going to be, Someone on the cement crew liked candy bars because there are at least 6 wrappers scattered about, but my back is too sore to pick them up tonight. The lumber will be delivered tomorrow. My contractor wanted to give the cement (especially the driveway) another day to cure, so the framing won’t start until Friday. I’m supposed to figure out where to put the porta-pottie and the dumpster…......heck, h...

WARNING! Reading this blog and watching the included video will take 8-10 minutes of your life that you will never get back!
Bob #2 and I were meeting up last Saturday to attend the Edmonton Woodshow.
The show had offerings from Delta, Hitachi, Steel City, General, Dewalt, Lee Valley, Lie Nielsen and a mixture of local guilds and arts and crafts distributors.
Overall, the show was quite good. There was lots of machinery there and Bob and I were able to meet up with Jim Lindsay, inv...

Thanks to all for the messages of welcome. I have much to learn, and will have very little – if anything – to say. But I’m glad to be here.
